The lunch was fantastic but we had to wait over an hour for our food. One cook and one waitress but they did a wonderful job.

What a quaint, warm restaurant in the Flint Hills offering incredibly delicious steaks plus other dinner options. My steak was pure perfection, and the atmosphere is so cozy and comforting. Staff were super kind. Chef came out to say hi and ask how I liked the steak. An awesome all-around dining experience!

I had read in an online rating article that Ad Astra steaks were in the top 5 in the state. I took a friend from topeka to visit the Cottonwood Falls area and planned on having lunch at your restaurant.
We both ordered the ribeye for lunch. I am sorry to say that your steaks were not even close to a top 25 steak in Kansas. It was meh.
Additionally, your server was very uninvolved with our service. I did expect hee to ask us about our meals after we were served. That never happened. ?
In retrospect, my friend and I both agreed that we should have got the burgers.

We were in town for the disc golf tournament and my bf was so excited Ad Astra had reopened. When we first met, he raved about the Brussels Sprouts, and how he couldn’t wait to visit again. We stayed at Eisenhower State Park, so coming into Strong City was a bit of a drive. We both had checked to make sure the restaurant was really open. I
decided it would be perfect for our monthly anniversary date. As you can see pictured, the Google listing says it is open on Wednesday. Imagine our disappointment after driving over and seeing Ad Astra was closed. We figured we wouldn’t have the opportunity to dine.
As it turns out, we visited Clover Hill and fortunately we had to drive through Strong City on our way back to Eisenhower. After our disappointment on Wednesday, my bf called to verify Ad Astra was open. It was. Yes! We drove over and entered. It was a welcome sight, eclectic and unique. This should be good! But it wasn’t.
We were seated by a server immediately as the restaurant wasn’t busy. We waited patiently for the server to come over. I understand there were only 3(?) employees, so we were patient. When the bartender brought our drinks, my bf mentioned that we had come over Wednesday but they weren’t open. She shrugged him off saying we’re not open on Wednesdays. Ok, we realize that now. But all-knowing Google , recently updated by owner, says it is. If you don’t want to apologize, how about a “thanks for letting me know, we’ll fix that.” It seemed like she couldn’t care less.
That left a bad taste in my mouth. Service from then on didn’t really make it better. We weren’t offered refills on our drinks (basic sodas) for more than 30 minutes. Although two families came in after us, we were the last group to receive our meals, approximately 55 minutes after we ordered. ALL of the other guests had left by the time we got our food.
And then, it was- meh. I get that they had limited supplies and were out of bison. It happens. But my second-choice Reuben wasn’t good. My bf’s medium rare burger was well done. His Brussels Sprouts, the ones his mouth was watering for, were mediocre at best. I’ve made better at home. Our youngest and my fries were hot on the outside but underdone on the inside. Our daughter’s grilled cheese with bacon ($5 extra for bacon) was the best item.
We could have said something to the cook as he came out of the kitchen after our meals and sat at a table across from us. Why even bother if the staff doesn’t care? Whatever. I did say something to the sever about the ladies room needing attention, and he was gracious in his response. He was truly pleasant and the highlight of our visit. Sadly, we won’t be back. I do hope they bring it back to the rave-worthy gem my bf remembers.

We ate here nine years ago when it was a destination restaurant and loved it. While driving through from Wichita on a Saturday afternoon, we stopped for lunch. We were a little surprised that the menu had been reduced to basically burgers and sandwiches, which must be the limited lunch menu. I ordered a bison burger and my wife ordered the Reuben. Our server came back to tell us they were out of bison (at 2pm already?) so I ordered the mushroom and swiss burger. We waited 45 minutes and when a family that had come in well after us got their order, my wife walked up to the kitchen window to ask if they had lost our order and we had to remind them what we had ordered. I complained to our server who said “I wish I could explain” not once, but twice. Our food finally came a few minutes later and sadly, was not worth the wait. My wife’s Reuben was soggy and my burger, while so thick I could barely fit it and the bun in my mouth, was pretty bland. I had a $5 beer and my wife had water (in a plastic cup) and our bill was still $45 for lunch. I hope we caught them on an off day because for a place that used to be a destination, it was one of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve had in years!

Charming local bar/grill in a cozy storefront tucked on a timeless mainstreet USA in Strong City. We breezed through on a random Friday evening and it was quiet with one staff and a cook. Our server/barkeeper was wonderfully nice, and the food was delicious. We felt welcomed, comfortable, and they were so very kind to our two kids. Bison burgers were great and the draft beer was ice cold!

What a deception online. Drove from out of town to eat. Arrive at 11:30 for lunch and door is locked, only maintenance guy. Said the owners not there, and not sure if they were opening up today.Went across the street and the signage outside was not the case of a Mexican restaurant. Some sort of bakery. Sign outside said cinnamon roles! Lol. Went in and asked for menus. A really nice guy said the Mexican restaurant moved out on the highway where the old pizza hut. Hinted we go there. On the way out it was like no loss to them attitude. So we went to the place out on the highway.Sad how I used to live in this area, and to come back and find if you aren't a local from here, you don't matter.
I miss the old Ad Astra! You never know when this one will be open. We went 1 time when they first reopened.... only thing on the menu was a burger or bison burger. They were out of regular burger. EXPENSIVE. Will not be back.
Parking: The employees park in all the spaces right at the front door.
