Quite possibly the worst food and service we've ever had. It is a small local cafe which we usually enjoy. The server was on her phone and it took a while for her to come to the table. They were out of the daily special so my husband ordered a cheeseburger. It was very overcooked. 1/4 lb was $9.00...no side. I ordered the chicken fried chicken lunch special. They were out of white gravy, I said brown gravy was okay. The potatoes would have been good but they were cold. The corn they served with it had to have been reheated 6 times. The tea that came with it was instant tea. We had to ask for silverware and napkins. For $29 we were very disappointed.

Love the variety of menu options. A lil something for everyone. The daily specials are always tasty. I can't forget to mention how friendly the staff is too💕
It was good food and enjoyed the bison and elk dinners. Ken was very pleasant to talk to and very informative. He knows his history of the area really well.
We were on road trip and looking for a relatively quick stop for something more than fast food. We did not realize there was one person doing everything. He was friendly but loved to talk about history. We spent 10 minutes listening to him talk before we even got to order. It took an hour to get a ham and cheese sandwich. It was also extremely warm in the dining room. Great place if you want to stay a while and are not in a hurry…it was not for us.
Fantastic food served fresh tasty and warm with history of the building and properties narrative. We felt so special and welcomed. Just like eating and visiting with family.
They were busy, but the food was wonderful!

This is a great place to learn about the history of Kansas and to have a great meal if you are looking for some history and a full belly
Good food with wonderful atmosphere. The Swedish meatballs were wonderful and we enjoyed hearing about all the history.

My friend Ann and I stopped here for lunch while visiting Council Grove. What an experience this was! Ken was our chef, waiter and historian. We had a wonderful meal - I had the English meal and Ann had the Italian. While we ate, Ken told us stories about the home and the area. He knows his history. He is a retired attorney and judge. He and his wife Shirley run the place and do all the food preparation. The building and all the artifacts in it are simply astounding. If you like history, you will love this place. Just don't stop unless you have the time to devote to listening, learning and good food. The restoration of this place and the one next door is interesting too. We were sorry that we missed meeting Shirley. She has devoted many years to all the restoration projects. Thank you Ken and Shirley for one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had in Kansas!
If you ever eat here bring your own silverware as the owner recommends not washing the utensils in the kitchen
It got too cold inside today to really enjoy my food. But the rest was good.

My husband & I came to Council Grove just to visit the Trail Days Cafe & Museum. We were greeted by the most wonderful host. I had read about it on Facebook, and knew it was staffed by volunteers. We had delicious cake and soup, but then we were served with the most amazing trip down Kansas History. Kenneth gave us the history of the building, but then the stories of the people of the area, and visitors that would add a new chapter to his own stories. Kenneth inspired us with his insight into the area that we then went out to explore. Thank you for bringing history to life. Amazing visit.
We toured the house and has a wonderful German Lunch. The homemade brats were delicious! The owner was a great wealth of information about the house and the city of Council Grove. He was born and raised in the area. Definitely worth a stop if in the area
