This would be a good restaurant if they changed their reservation policy. They say they don't take reservations, and it is first come, first serve. I am sure that is convenient for them, but for the customers, it is awful. We had to go to the restaurant when they opened at 4 to get on the list to eat at 5:15. So plan on going there and getting a mystery dinner time. We have been there before trying to get a table, and they were full for the night. The hostess we dealt with at the front was rude. Clearly, she is tired of hearing how dissatisfied everyone is with the policy. Food was very good and all other service was good but all in all it isn't worth being inconvenienced to be at their mercy ad to whether you can eat there or not.
A great Hibachi experience! The only downside was the wait, but they tend to wait until they have a full table to begin (that's normal for a hibachi place). The chef was fun, and cooked everything great! Great sense of humor too!
If I could give ZERO stars I would. We reserved a table and it was confirmed. When we arrived, the RUDE hostess repeated six times, "We don't take reservations." I showed her the confirmation and unbelievably, she said it again. And added that it seems to be a problem with Google. Really? Literally, there were less than ten persons seated for dinner. We will never go back.
Our food and drinks were prepared and brought out quickly. Service was on point and very friendly. Chef was incredibly entertaining and cooked the food to perfection.
Kid-friendliness: Very good
The hibachi experience is cool, and the food/drinks were very good, but a 30 minute wait at the time it opened because of only one hibachi chef is ridiculous.
I love a good teppanyaki place and I was afraid that I wouldn't find one in Wichita. However Sumo proved me wrong.Be sure to get here early because seating and service is pretty slow. Time between drinks and ordering took some time so it ses they still might be shaking off the pandemic rust. However once every was ordered everything rolled out like clockwork. Beef carpaccio was very good with a little soy sauce. There was good char on the vegetables, volcano chicken was spicy which I find pretty rare in this city. They got a great amount of smokiness to the fried rice, and the quality of beef they were using was very good. Someone on the table ordered scallops and they were perfectly done which is also something I don't experience often at teppanyaki. If I were to leave any suggestions, the soup at the start needs a little work, but everything else was fantastic! Especially enjoyed the little bit of raspberry sorbet at the end.
So the hours posted for this place on Sunday are 12-9 however when we arrived at the restaurant at 3:30 there was a sign on the door saying they open at 4pm. We waited until 4pm and checked in at that time. They had us wait another 30 minutes to be seated. In the mean time we ordered sushi at the bar however we could not be seated until we had paid for the sushi at the bar. They would not just move us to the table with the open ticket. Each time coming here, they make it harder and harder to justify coming back
Love to go here for the experience, but it could use an update. Hope it gets an update so that it can improve and continue to be part of Wichita's restaurant options!
This place had mad roaches. We saw a total of 4 within 30 minutes. When we brought it up to the mangers they wouldn’t comp us our meal. They just told us we couldn’t eat any of our food but we could leave without paying. But if we ate anything we’d get have to pay in full. We left but we’re very disappointed after having to wait for almost 2 hours.
We called to make an RSVP, like we always had. We were told that they didn't take rsvp. anymore. But if we gave them a phone # they would call when they had an opening. An hour later we got our call. The food was delicious. Our chef was great.

Food underwhelming in flavor for a really expensive price whether it was sushi or hibachi. Portions were on the smaller side as well. Waiting to be seated took about an hour then waiting time to receive food also took very long. At least the decor is nice and the place is kept clean.
Food was good but someone came in an hour after me with the same name and got in before. I would’ve left but if I would’ve gone somewhere else the wait would’ve been longer. All I got was a “sorry sir”. The wait is long but it’s worse when they don’t keep track of names. Service was awful.
Did the hibachi side. Food was mediocre in taste at best. Very small quantities. Chef did not divide shared portions between people at the table. Show was lacking. Restaurant does not have the famous yum yum sauce which seemed odd. We were charged each plate for garlic fried rice at $4. No idea why that was on there as none of us requested it. Lobster was heavenly over cooked. The sherbet at the end was pleasant.Sushi was excellent. (Heavens door with avocado instead of cream cheese.)Waitress was attentive and kind. Also, the chairs on hibachi side are very uncomfortable.
Front door host was horrible, with a very nasty/rude attitude. Although our party of 8 arrived before a party of 6, they were seated first. The explanation was "it was only 1 minute difference." Sumo's only had 2 chefs with multiple tables, which made our wait an additional 30 minutes. Waitress and chef were good, only reason for 2 stars.
