service outstanding, foo dis delicious, The Inn caters large partie. Many food choices to choose from. Prices budget friendly.
October 2021- Dinner Bucket is in the Benham Schoolhouse Inn, but you cannot eat there because it has been CLOSED for some time. Since the dining area is in the Inn across from the office, you can have coffee or tea in the morning. NO Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. The dining area is a good place for reading or studying, or playing cards or games.
Very professional staff and the prices are reasonable. The food is great, I would suggest the farmhouse burger or the fish sandwich, both are straight delicious.
Our first—but if the Lord wills and we live to return, not our last!—dining experience within the Benham Schoolhouse Inn at the dinner Bucket was 100%A+ EXCELLENT! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed hot-out-of-the-oven chicken tenders, steamed broccoli, pork chop, and baked potato and a fresh salad as well as topnotch service! I had looked into staying over night here a few years ago when I saw it was just a bit too far off our itinerary to West Virginia, so I asked if we might be shown a room; we both agreed the restaurant and museums and other attractions of the area would make for a return trip with others we’d like to introduce to the area...maybe even an event big enough to warrant reserving the old gym turned ballroom!
Great place to stay! The most friendly people you will ever meet.
I havent been here, but the prices seem a little steep for that area, the food is basic so for those prices, as a chef, idk about small that, but everybody has overhead to pay so gotta pay bills somehow and not alot of traffic in the region so I kinda understand, but would 1$ less almost across the board increase sales?.. idk ijs.
Great food great prices! 10 minute drive from Kingdom Come.
Showed up on a day that they weren't technically open (my bad for not checking first) with a friend from grad school who was visiting KY for the first time, they were serving a tour group an amazing buffet lunch cooked by the same staff that cooks their "regular hours" meals. Travis, the proprietor since 2016, was extremely gracious and allowed us to slide in as if we were part of the tour group. I've eaten at "Appalachian chic" restaurants in Brooklyn and other big cities and this blew them out of the water. Perfectly seasoned fried chicken, extra tender beef, steamed and slightly sweetened carrots, the list goes on. I have full confidence their everyday menu is every bit as well-delivered, and I'd highly suggest anyone interested in a very unique trip check out this spot, as well as nearby attractions like the gorgeous Kingdom Come State Park and Portal 31 historic coal mine tour.
Great food, wonderful service, lovely atmosphere!
I enjoyed a delicious light meal of a huge baked potato, asparagus, and broccoli at the Dinner Bucket on Saturday, July 13, 2019. The asparagus was delicious. The baked potato was advertised as one pound, and I'm confident it was--the biggest baked potato I've ever seen. Though I rarely eat the skin on baked potatoes, I ate part of it on this one, and even the skin was tasty. The broccoli seemed to be steamed to the right consistency and its flavor came through well. Mom, my sister, and my niece ordered larger meals, and their meals seemed large, too. I think my mom and niece took some home. The total price for the four of us seemed reasonable (Mom generously paid the bill). The restaurant is located in the Benham Schoolhouse Inn, across the street and up a hill from the Kentucky Coal Mining Museum in Benham. The restaurant in in the old school building and still has the lockers, as well as several photos, etc. The building offers overnight accommodations, too. I'm trying to adhere to a vegan diet. It would be nice if the restaurant added a vegetarian or vegan entree, but the huge baked potato and generous serving of asparagus served well as a substitute for me. Service was very friendly. Plenty of free parking is nearby.

Been coming to this area on mission trips for 9 years now. Finally got to stop in for the first time and look around, and have lunch with family. Was so glad we did!!! Beautifully restored, great food and the owner and staff we encountered were welcoming, friendly and happy to help. Can't say enough nice things about our experience
If you haven't tried it yet, do yourself a favor and get there as soon as you can. I wasn't expecting such a wonderful meal for a reasonable price. I have found the place for me in Benham.
My wife and I stayed at the Inn and had lunch and dinner while there and both meals were very good. We had a giant loaded bbq pork baked potato and grilled chicken wrap for lunch and a fried fish basket with grilled asparagus and she had the loaded potato skins with bbq pork, both meals included homemade coleslaw, It was all good and reasonable prices, We were thankful the food was good because there is nothing else close by to eat. We would certainly go here again. All the workers were friendly.
great food and friendly staff
