Mountain Mike's Coffee House

I was asked to leave this coffee shop permanently after being told that my conversations with staff made people feel unsafe.

I am someone who communicates openly and directly with people I believe I can trust. In this space that included discussing things like movies, ADHD traits, human behavior, and objective comments about songs playing on an overhead speaker.

I was also told that another business had been contacted and referenced as part of the decision. I know exactly which business this refers to. It is the only other establishment I had mentioned, and my experience there was also based on mischaracterizations of my communication style rather than inappropriate behavior.

I understand that what is labeled as “inappropriate” can be subjective, arbitrary, and open to interpretation, but none of this was intended to be inappropriate for the sake of being provocative. I don't think that it demonstrated anything less than curiosity and an attempt to engage and connect.

What I want to name is that while I was told others felt unsafe, I myself felt unsafe being confronted with assumptions, infantilization, and narratives formed about my character rather than my actions.

When I was informed of the ban, I listened to and processed what the owner had to say while noticing seemingly minor but important details about his demeanor and what I was going through internally. I stood up, placed my coffee cup in the dirty dish bin and walked out without a final, polite word. At this point, it was no longer relevant or appropriate.

The impression that I left with is that my presence here was “dangerous”. Dangerous in the sense that ambiguity feels like something you cannot contain, but throwing off labels onto someone whose experiences you do not understand on a deeper level is no less dangerous.

We love going to Mountain Mikes Coffee. The owners and employees are always so welcoming and friendly. I love that I can bring my 3 year old in here and he has a great time.

A friend of mine told me about Mountain Mike's Coffee in Glendale, and it's a fantastic little spot to visit while you're exploring the shops in the area. It's definitely the first place you should stop by so you can enjoy your coffee while walking around.

I had the chocolate cold foam cold brew and loved it! Anytime I’m driving past Glendale, I’ll definitely make a stop at my new favorite coffee shop. They also have a puzzle swap, and there’s almost always someone working on a puzzle. It’s such a great place to unwind with a cup of coffee if you have the time.

I drove for a while looking for this coffee shop. The drive was worthed! The matcha latte was delicious and the coffee as well. The owners Lisa and Brian were supper friendly. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the barista.
I will definitely go back when I visit KY.

Mountain Mike's is my favorite coffee shop of all time, I have yet to see a coffee shop that beats the service, atmosphere, and great taste that this place has to offer. If you're just passing through or here to stay for a while, Mountain Mike's is the place to go early in the morning or for an afternoon lemonade or tea!
