East L.A. Grill offers delicious Mediterranean food, with top-tier hummus and excellent Smashburger. The falafel and beef gyro are fantastic, light, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. The potato skins appetizer is unique and really good. The owners are sweet and friendly, creating a great small business atmosphere. Located in Lancaster, parking is easy. A hidden gem in the Midwest, every item on their menu is incredible. A must-visit restaurant with A+++ quality.
Recent reviews highlight the amazing food, especially the shawarma pizza, which is unlike anything customers have tried before and highly recommended. The 3 skewers and gyro are also praised for their size and flavor. The chicken & steak kabobs are seasoned to perfection, and the hummus and salad are full of flavor. The Turkish coffee is made fresh and with good foam, adding to the authentic experience. Service is friendly, though the staff may be shy or inexperienced, but they take good care of guests.
The shawarma pizza stands out as a favorite, and the kabobs, rice, and hummus are solid choices. Prices are reasonable, with the shawarma sandwiches and pizza offering good value. The 3 kabob meal is on the pricier side, especially since the lamb upcharge is higher than typical, but it was a special treat.
Some minor concerns include the garlic sauce, which could be thicker and more potent, and a few flies on a warm day. The place looks a bit down home and not the cleanest, but there is no obvious uncleanliness or mold. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming.
Overall, the food is better than some places and less good than others. While Lexington may have more Middle Eastern options at better prices, the Shawarma Pizza alone makes the trip worth it. For those already in Lancaster or nearby, it’s a great spot to enjoy authentic Mediterranean dishes in a cozy setting.
