I recently had the pleasure of visiting Barrel House Distillery, and overall, it was a delightful experience. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a great spot to unwind and enjoy some quality spirits. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, eager to share their passion for the craft of distilling.

The tasting portion of the visit was a highlight, showcasing a variety of their offerings that truly reflected the quality and care put into each bottle. I particularly enjoyed the unique flavors and the smoothness of their spirits, which clearly demonstrate the distillery's commitment to excellence.

However, I did find myself wishing that the tour had delved deeper into the history of the distillery, the brand, and its founder. While the information provided was interesting, a more comprehensive overview would have enriched the experience and given visitors a greater appreciation for the legacy and craftsmanship behind the spirits.

In summary, Barrel House Distillery is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in quality distilling. With a bit more focus on the historical context, it could elevate the experience even further. I look forward to returning and seeing how they continue to grow and evolve!

What a great place to stop!
Marshall was our tour guide and he explained all the details of making bourbon and other alcoholic beverages.
We had a taste test after and it was good and really strong.
Great business.
They have a bar attached to this as well but we did not go there

🥃 Barrel House Distilling Co. – A Hidden Gem in Lexington’s Distillery District
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tucked away in the historic barrel house of the old James E. Pepper Distillery, Barrel House Distilling Co. brings a rich heritage back to life. Founded in 2008 by Jeff Wiseman and Pete Wright, this craft distillery is a testament to Kentucky's enduring bourbon legacy.

What Makes It Special?
RockCastle Bourbon: A smooth, sweet bourbon handcrafted using local Kentucky corn and wheat, offering notes of toffee, caramel, and vanilla.

Devil John Moonshine: Named after Pete Wright's great-uncle, a notorious 19th-century U.S. Marshal and moonshiner, this spirit pays homage to a colorful family history.

Elkhorn Tavern: Their on-site lounge offers inventive cocktails made from their own spirits, providing a cozy spot to relax before or after your tour.

Tours at Barrel House Distilling Co. are intimate and informative, starting on the hour from Wednesday to Sunday. You'll delve into the distilling process, sample their range of spirits, and learn about Lexington's rich distilling heritage. Thank you too Jeff Wiseman how personally, guide me through the complete process and the tasting. It is unforgettable, Thank you.

We did a tour and tasting then enjoyed drinks and snacks at the tavern. The tour was interesting and we learned a lot about how different spirits are made. We were able to sample all the staples at the end. The tavern was cozy and the service was great. We got the beer cheese and corn mash muffins as well as the Lexington Lemonade and we enjoyed everything. Definitely a nice small distillery tour in the heart of Lexington.

This establishment has come a long way since the last time I was here in 2014. I came across the Oak rum and have been a fan ever since. I bought 3 bottles now, since I'm here for work. I live in Colorado now. I added my recent photo from the outside of thebuilding, and the inside pictures are from March 2014.

Sorry not good with names, but the older gentleman at the back bar was very nice. We decided against doing a tasting and went to the bar to have a drink and appetizer. 4 other staff members walked past us sitting there for at leastv10 minutes before we decided to leave, and walk down the way to the James E. Pepper's tasting room (great service).

Stopped in for lunch and a quick tasting at the tavern and distillery. Had the deviled eggs, buffalo chicken dip and the best nachos we've ever had. Jefferson and Taiylor provided us with the best service and gave us great advice. Marshall provided the service for tasting and was so informative. Would highly recommend a visit.
