This little family owned restaurant has been in business for generations, it has amazing food. Even more amazing than the food, THE MILK SHAKES! They're always handmade, with pretty much any flavor you could want. I always get peanut butter and banana. (Made with real peanut butter and banana). They also have chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream, and really good Banana splits. You can't beat them, really. In my opinion, it's the only place in Mount Vernon to go...
It's like the Ole Dairy twist back in the '60s. It's the best burger I have had in a long time. Also, the soft ice cream is what it used to be. I had a butterscotch and peanut butter shake before, and both were great. You need to go if you haven't been, and you like soft ice cream, good old-fashioned burgers, or footlong hot dogs.
I have been stopping by the back shack for over 40 years.I love the style on the inside.We used to cruise Mount Vernon when we were kids the town would basically be a line from Napa parking lot to the other end.Waving at friends getting girls and listening to something on 98.1 WKQQ LEXINGTON radio station and blasting it out the window.We would stop by the SNACK SHACK for shakes.Mount Vernon is home to the Rockcastle County Rockets.Go Rockets!
