Good place to come and hang or get some studying/reading in! It was pretty quiet when I was here on a Saturday. Extensive selection of baked goods and sandwiches. Seating includes both tables and comfy chairs.

The sandwiches where delicious. My only complaint was that I got a cranberry muffin to go. The muffin was old and stale.

I came to the Galentine’s event and it was a wonderful atmosphere fun event yummy coffee and food! So much fun looking forward to future events! Definitely recommend this place for coffee, lounging and events!
The coffee is so YUMMY, and I love the Themes they do! Also, the food is highly recommended! Hot and tasty! I love the staff, they are so knowledgable, helpful AND so approachable. With all that goodness, then there’s the atmosphere!!! Wow! A few of our Book Club members and I had coffee one Sunday morning, and we ended up being there for over 2 hours!! We had such a relaxed time and totally lost track of time. I always recommend The Mercantile Coffee and Feed whenever anyone mentions meeting for coffee!! I cannot wait til the next time!!
Food is delicious! Always have fun themed drinks to choose from. After 4 visits here, I have come to prepare myself for a 15-40 minute wait on a drink and a sandwich, busy or not. I was nearly late for an appointment thinking I could get a coffee and breakfast really quick and be on my way, but, it took 40 minutes from the time I ordered and grabbed my coffee. Food is always served first and if you are on the go - it gets cold. Would be more ideal if there was quicker service and orders kept together (food and drink served at the same time.).

I stopped in to get a Lorelai's Caffeine Fix for Gilmore Girl Days. It was also my first time in there. The coffee and the atmosphere was great!
The owner was extremely pompous and the coffee was lacking. I won’t be back. If you’re looking for a relaxing place to drink coffee this is not it.

The coffee and sandwiches are very excellent. Usually the service is really good am a frequent customer , however my most recent visit it was quite busy with just one employee working ( he was doing his best). There was only one person ahead of me in line , it took almost 50 minutes for me to receive my drink after I entered the store , that is unacceptable

Cool little coffee shop. If I'd live near by I'd definitely be there more often. If your passing through it's nice place to get out, get a coffee, and stretch your legs

First impression was promising: a large open space, a menu with all the standard third wave drinks. Mercantile did not live up to this impression.
The cortado I got had an unpleasant burnt taste. I would give the baristas the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to the beans that were used. My metric for patronizing a coffee establishment is: if they can't make coffee with their multi-thousand dollar machine that is at least on par with what I can make with minimal effort on a $150 manual espresso machine, then they have no business operating said machine.
As for the space, it is filled with insipid kitsch: throwaway fiction on the bookshelf, a "but first coffee" sign on the wall, Cracker Barrell-style jumbo checkers on a rug board.
I always hold out hope for Nicholasville entrepreneurs to build something that can be a cultural hub for the city, and turn Nicholasville into something other than a hollowed-out bedroom community. I've been to all of the revolving door of coffee shops (Main & Maple, J's Place, etc etc) some of them have had a decent product and have made valliant efforts in fostering community, but have all ultimately failed. When I come to Nicholasville I always stop in to whatever the new, soon-to-fail coffee shop is. And it is almost always a different shop than the last time.
It's not impossible for small towns near an urban center to support a decent coffee shop—Much smaller Wilmore, for example, has accomplished this! This one hasn't. Mercantile might capture a small, niche crowd of people not accustomed to good coffee, or people for whom the convenience of having a workspace near their home is enough to bear mediocrity, but it's not what Nicholasville needs: a small town place that gives a reason for students, young professionals, and work-from-home folks to not drive to Lexington.
It's going to take a lot of effort, creativity, and community involvement to make a coffee house that is viable in Nicholasville. Based on my experience at Mercantile, I don't think the folks behind this shop are up to the task. That might change, but I'm not hopeful.
