I was able to meet with Mike and take a tour. The history and culture that goes in to every bottle is amazing. Definitely worth checking out and supporting your local farmers.

J.T. Meleck Distillery is making some of the best Louisiana Arcadian Rice Distilled Vodka. If you have Louisiana's finest rice then you might think about fermenting it and then distilling it according to your secret recipe and making some of the finest vodka in the world. You may want a vodka that pairs well with the legendary Branch, South Louisiana gumbo. In July, Michael and Mark Frugé, the owners of Frugé Aquafarms and Frugé Seafood, launched a new sister company, Frugé Spirits, and used that rice for a new product: rice vodka they call J.T. Meleck Louisiana Rice Vodka. I highly reccomend you try some. "We've been working on this for about two years and we went to market in July," Michael Frugé said. "I'm in the fresh caught ocean to table seafood, so I see a lot of the foodie trends, and this is something that has always intrigued me." Frugé's family has been farming rice in this Acadia Parish community since 1896. The Fruge Family expanded into using the fields for crawfish as many farmers have done over the past century since commercial rice farming became popular, but making alcohol from rice was a new concept for the Frugés and fairly unique for handcrafted vodka. Only a few distilleries in the world make handcrafted vodka from the finest Louisiana rice.

A great craft rice vodka with an amazing level of complexity. It has a slight vanilla note and an ultra smooth finish. The best thing about this vodka is that it all produced locally, with local ingredients.
