My husband and I were traveling North on I-49 and this little restaurant appeared on the map. We were very pleasantly surprised with great food at a great price, great service, and the cutest little restaurant north of Shreveport. We have already decided to stop again on our way home. Do yourself a favor and stop when passing by.
Used to love driving the fam out here!! Miss that! But, maybe for the drive and price my expectations are slightly elevated. And I would prefer a little more attentiveness. Food didn’t disappoint, but didn’t blow my skirt up either. I enjoyed not having to cook the steak, but they used to be so much better than they are now. Still wouldn’t say no to going now and then, but not just looking forward to it, so to speak. And this was the same experience I had a few months back, the last time I visited as well, so not just ‘shooting from the hip’ here. Hope next time y’all are still there and made a few adjustments.
mashed potatoes and green beans to die for dont need no salt or nothing they are perfect
chicken fried steak was just icing on the cake
A true old fashioned diner with excellent food. The chicken fried steak! And how do they make those green beans!? The hamburger! A long drive from shreveport but we find it worth it. Food there is not cheap, so we don't go often. Opens at 11 and closes at 2, I think
A friend and I had lunch today at Main Street Restaurant in Gilliam LA. We were driving the Sunflower Trail. I ordered fried shrimp and my friend ordered the fried catfish. The food was excellent. Could not think of one criticism. The atmosphere is family friendly. The service was excellent and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend!
Though we've loved the high quality & huge portions of delicious Southern food here for years, meats & vegetables today, all of them, were way over salted. The pies and tea were as good as ever. Another diner we met outside mentioned that his meal was so salty. Note to kitchen: please, back off the salt, we'll add it if needed, thanks!
The food was good, and priced well.
Amazing food and very friendly people. The chicken fried steak was delicious!

All visitors to Northwest Louisiana should eat at Main Street restaurant in Gilliam, La. Outstanding home cook food, large portion size, prices are very reasonable. Please try the chicken fried steak and the crawfish French bread appetizer. The fried catfish dinner is the freshest fish I have had in years. I will let you know how the chocolate pie and blueberry cobbler tastes.
Great food, whether catfish or steaks, chicken fried chicken or chicken fried steak, it’s all good!! I love their crawfish bread as an appetizer too! Family atmosphere!
Terrible service. The waitress was slow, argumentative and very impolite. I was there with a church group for lunch and will never go back again. I do not need a reply from restaurant management. I have read other reviews and their replies that only make excuses for their waitress who should find another line of work.
We order from there about twice a week and it's excellent most of the time.
