Seafood Combo Plate x 2 and 2 iced teas was $66.08 plus tip. Each plate had: One catfish fillet sliced thin into 2.5 pieces, 2 oysters, 4 shrimp, 1 stuffed shrimp-cold in the middle, hot vinegar cole slaw, salty cool shrimp etouffee, 2 cold hush puppies, cold french fries and good service. JS

I have been to multiple different Don's Seafood locations and always return for their exceptional hush puppies. This was my first time visiting the Hammond location. Today, I ordered the 12-piece hush puppies and they were absolutely terrible. To me, they seemed like a cheap frozen hush puppy versus the larger, fresher ones that I've enjoyed at every other Don's restaurant. These were not warm and were tough and chewy. I ordered the gumbo, which had good flavor but was extremely salty. The side of rice was disappointing — it was hard, dry, and not fresh, almost like a solid chunk that couldn’t be broken with a spoon or fork. My wife’s dish was also very salty, and the portion sizes were quite small, even for her, and she’s usually a light eater.

The waiter did offer to bring fresh rice, but by the time she came back, I had already finished the gumbo and left the rice...
