Mama’s Kitchen was recommended to us by Dominique at the Whitney Plantation when we asked where we could find authentic southern food. My partner ordered the gumbo and the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn. I had the fried chicken and fries. We thought they closed at 9, so we showed up just before 7—only to find out they actually closed at 7. Despite that, they still took our order and kindly packed it to go. One of the staff members, whose name I didn’t catch, even offered to stay late so we could dine in. Everyone there was incredibly kind and accommodating.
