Jake's Seafood & Restaurant

A small quiet family owned restaurant that was recommended to us by our captain on the swamp tour and touted as a “very good place to eat authentic New Orleans” I would have to sadly disagree. The establishment gave a 1950’s type vibe both in aesthetic and the demographic of the patrons. As soon as we walked in all eyes were on us. It was pretty hot inside as the establishment does not have central AC. The rice in the gumbo was very undercooked, the jambalaya looked like it came out of an uncle Ben’s rice bag. The fried fish was cooked well, but lacked some seasoning. My shrimp and pasta with two crab stuff balls, was ok at best. The “crab” stuffed balls were deep fried stuffing with a crab flavoring. The best tasting thing we had was my kids fried shrimp and French fries. I would have honestly given the place 2 stars but our waitress was such a kind sweet soul and really elevated our experience.

Was recommended to us but the experience left a very bad taste in our mouths. Our presence as non local customers seemed like a complete inconvenience to our waitress who was reluctant to prepare an item and even rolled her eyes when questions were asked about the menu. Of course, the answers that followed were condescending and short. She was cordial and joking with customers who seemed like regulars, but not our party who were new to the restaurant and wanted to try something different. We would probably not come back unless we became experts on the menu. Message received loud and clear.

Great place for good ol' home cooking and must-have seafood plates. Owners are so nice. Best Catfish and great gumbos
