Been eating at Ma Mama’s for past 4 years multiple times per month, mostly lunch time. I have never had a bad dish and have tried the whole menu. I have traveled the world and eaten at some amazing restaurants, Ma Mama’s is my favorite for Louisiana cooking in the Baton Rouge area. Service can be slower at times, but never experienced rudeness. I enjoy the occasional new item on the menu to try new tastes. I will continue to enjoy a wonderful dining experience at Ma Mama’s.

It is a very nice place , I enjoyed it a lot. As for the food I thought it was bland with no taste. I had the crawfish étouffée fried catfish on top, and I was like where is the flavor ? But I’d still recommend it.

Pleasantly surprised at how delicious & reasonably priced the filet was! Perfectly cooked, delicious baked potato, savory sautéed mushrooms & smooth Cloudline Pinot Noir. Molly was our server and she was impeccable — knowledgeable about the menu, accommodating, and she knew about food allergies and which foods were acceptable for celiac. She was so sweet and smiled the entire time — I served for 15 years of my life so I especially appreciated the quality of her service. 10/10 highly recommend this place — I actually Enjoyed it more than Ruth’s Chris to be honest!

It would be far better to visit McDonald's and get a much cheaper bad dinner.

Ma Mama's Kitchen reviews and the management were very disappointing. The reviews made it seem like it was the place you must eat at. I probably should have not even opened the front door and decided to eat elsewhere when I actually saw the actual building, old and not very appealing. But I have been in many other locations like this and had great experiences and meals.
Experience:
Walked in, just after the opening time.
Place looked dated and a bit dark. The greeting table, yes table, loaded the decorations, seemed to be clean and a man standing next to it. Was asked if I had reservations, I did not. He fumbled through the paperwork several times. There was only one group of 7 people in the entire restaurant. The dining area had about 25 tables. I was seated about 2 minutes later. I asked where the restroom was to wash my hands I was told where it was. I walked to the area it was kinda dark and almost couldn't see the sign. I opened the door it was extremely dark. I felt inside the room for the switch which I struggled to find it. I finally found it, it was not in the usual place where one would expect. The restroom was clean though.

Service:
I viewed about 8 staff members. My waitress as well as another young lady bussing the table was very pleasant. Not much interaction with the customers though.

Food:
Plate arrived very hot. The food on it was warm. It's presentation was good but I had no clue what the white stuff was to one side. I ordered the pan seared salmon. It looked cooked right. It flaked off as it should when it is done. The flavor, hardly any. I almost sent it back but I thought maybe it was just that bite, I was wrong. It was the most unflavorful salmon I've ever ate. I tried eating it with the spinach that was served with it. The spinach was uneventful in itself, not much more than basic spinach flavor. I tried eating it with the white stuff, they called it seafood. No taste, bad texture and very watery. I had thought I would try to finish but decided I had enough, less than a third of the meal was ate The waitress asked about the meal. I told her the above.

The reaction and solution:
She apologized. She told someone perhaps the manager but no one ever came to talk to me other than the waitress which I believe it to be the manager duty to address the customer on a matter as the service the establishment provides it was conveyed that because I ate the portion of salmon and tried the other Items they would not offer anything other than a substitute. I informed the waitress that that is not what I wanted. She offered to box it up but I had to tell her again how bad the meal was and that it was garbage. I also stated that it wasn't about the price although it was the most costly item in the menu, I just wanted a good meal however it fell on deaf ears. The reviews about Ma Mama kitchen did not live up to the quality or experience. I will never and would encourage others not to darken their door. It would be far better to visit McDonald's and get a much cheaper bad dinner.

My only regret was eating two poboys and leaving 0 room for their amazing looking deserts. The ladies working the lunch hour were super friendly and fun. The buns on the poboys were so delicious. If I'm ever in the area again, I will drive out of my way to come back here.

Lovely restaurant with fantastic food and drink options. The whole place is just so moody and perfect for a rainy day. Our server was wonderful, we were never rushed and the food was amazing.

Great food, friendly staff. Start with the crawfish balls, then get a cup of the seafood gumbo and for your entree you gotta try Ma Mama's Catfish, fantastic!
