the food serving is very slow, we had five items and it took 45 minutes to have everything served.

I ordered two dishes from Uber Eats. They delivered one of them and left a note on the receipt saying the other one was out and tell me to get refunds from uber eats. No other communications whatsoever. The level of disrespect and arrogance is crazy lol.

Second time reviewing this spot, it was even better than before. We eat a lot of Chinese food in the area and it’s rare that I enjoy each individual dish that we order, so much. My wife and I firmly believe the cauliflower is the best we’ve ever had. Specifically impressed with all the seafood and vegetable preparations but everything is excellent and presented so nicely. The food is not too heavy either, so even when eating heartily you won’t leave feeling too stuffed. Can’t wait to return.
As a side note, the staff were very sweet and accommodating to our three month old who joined us.

We had eaten at this restaurant more than five times within a single month. On our last visit, we ordered quite a lot of dishes, and the two-person table became extremely crowded — there was barely space to place our phones on the table.
I politely asked if we could switch to a larger table. At that time, there were only two or three other tables occupied in the entire restaurant. The staff told us that all larger tables were “reserved for a 5:30 PM booking.” It was around 5:10 PM at that moment. I pointed at the empty dining area and asked whether all of the larger tables were reserved, and the answer was “yes.”
So we stopped asking and continued our meal, respecting what we were told. However, when we finished and left at around 5:32 PM, the dining area was still completely empty, with no sign of any reservation showing up.
In addition, the food quality has been declining over time. Dishes that we previously enjoyed no longer tasted as good as before, which made the overall experience even more disappointing.
This was our last visit to this restaurant, and it was also the only time we ever left a 0 tip. The issue wasn’t the money — it was the experience. The contrast between the overcrowded table, the empty dining room, and the declining food quality left a very poor impression.

Second time coming here this week with my husband while we’re back in town for Christmas—and that says a lot. He loved the chicken wings so much the first time that he had to get them again 😂 You know the food is legit when the place is full of Chinese customers. Friendly staff, excellent service, and I really like the self-service ordering system—it’s very similar to how restaurants operate in China. Overall, great food and a great experience. We’ll definitely be back!

Honestly, the food was really good and the price was reasonable. Been living in Boston for over ten years and I dine out in Chinese restaurants pretty frequently. This place is one of the best in town. Such a hidden gem. The restaurant was clean and spacious. The service was surprisingly good too. The fish filets I ordered were too spicy, and they helped taking some chili out. They also helped pack the leftovers to go.

The food was amazing, and the staff was kind and nice too! You could especially feel the effort put in the food they made, and it is clear that they take pride in their menu.

Hao Shi Guang is hands-down my favorite restaurant in the Allston area.
I come at least twice a month and try different dishes every time. Everything that I've ordered is of the highest quality--the ingredients, preparation, and presentation are top-tier. You can really see the chefs' experiences and artistry.
Additionally, the service and atmosphere here are fantastic--the waiters are super cordial and polite, and the decor is fresh and modern.
Some people have said that the wait is very long, but in my experience, the wait is only around 10 - 15 minutes, but for holidays and around noon on weekends, the wait can extend to 45 minutes. However, these facts are just testaments to just how GOOD this place is!
All-in-all, Hao Shi Guang serves up authentic, nostalgic food and provides a beautiful, welcoming space.
This is a must-visit if you come to the Allston area!

I’m Chinese and this is my new go to Chinese restaurant in Allston. We tried a variety of dishes, and they all blew us away — the food was beyond what we expected. The only downside is the food may take long time during rush hour.
