Decent visit to 80 Thoreau. The food and service were average, and the atmosphere was okay, but nothing particularly stood out. It's a nice enough place for a casual meal, but I was expecting a little more given the reputation.

Always an elegant dining experience here. The host and wait staff are always very welcoming and professional. We loved the roasted carrots, roasted chicken and semifreddo.
Every dish I've had there is exquisite, especially the pappardelle, paella, and fried cauliflower. Wonderful warm, quiet atmosphere.
Honestly 80 Thoreau just keeps getting better. We love it so much. Everything was delicious esp. the chicken. Service and staff are extraordinary.
Special dinner or just a night out, my family and I have had many extraordinary meals at 80 Thoreau. Most recently 5 of us dined to celebrate several significant events. We spent almost 3 hours and had a truly special evening. The service was exceptional and the food superb. Everything we ate was 10 out of 10. And so was our night. Thank you 80 Thoreau!
The food and service at 80 Thoreau were terrific. We were fortunate to be seated in a quiet corner. I think other portions of the room were pretty noisy. We'll be back, and we'll recommend 80 Thoreau to others. My only concern is that the menu is pretty small, so I hope we'll be as fortunate next time in finding something we want, and that it will be as delicious as last night's dinner was.
Cozy local bistro with excellent food quality, a custom curated seasonal menu, knowledgeable staff, and fun speakeasy-vibed cocktails. A rarity to find quality like this outside rue city. A regular for us!
Exceptional, friendly service in a lovely environment. The new menu, and the new executive chef, are impressive. Salmon entree was delicious, as was the hot wild rice salad. Our first courses of paella and roasted winter squashes were both beautifully designed and made.
We haven't been to 80 Thoreau in a while, but returned for my husband's birthday dinner and had a superlative experience. Everything that we ordered, from appetizers to entrees to dessert, was outstanding. The service was also great: attentive, friendly, but unobtrusive. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope to be back soon! .
We attended 80 Thoreau for their New Year's Eve prix fixe dinner, and the entire experience was nothing short of stunning. From start to finish, the food was creative, beautifully executed, and genuinely memorable. A special highlight for me was the thoughtfully crafted vegetarian menu. Too often, vegetarian options feel like an afterthought, but that could not have been further from the case here. This was a true culinary experience — not a default salad or pasta — and every dish felt intentional and inspired. The carrot starter was surprising and elegant, and the cauliflower main was absolutely outstanding — flavorful, layered, and satisfying in a way that showcased real creativity and care from the kitchen. The service was equally impressive. Every member of the team we encountered was attentive, knowledgeable, and clearly proud of what they were serving. Each dish was explained with confidence and warmth, adding to the overall experience rather than interrupting it. The ambiance was perfectly on point for a New Year's Eve celebration — welcoming, refined, and festive without feeling overdone. Combined with the incredible food and outstanding service, it made for a truly special evening. 80 Thoreau delivered an exceptional dining experience, and we will absolutely be back. A perfect way to ring in the new year.
Restaurantji Recommends
The food at 80 Thoreau is outstanding. Delicious and very well presented. Their wine be the glass has excellent choices and reasonably priced. The restaurant is broken into multiple rooms, which keeps things quite, though takes away from some of the energy. The small bar is beautifully decorated and would be a treat just for a cocktail. The one negative of our experience was the service. It was far from attentive and not particularly knowledgeable. Might have been bad luck and I do recommend going here.
Very good service and exceptional staff. Lower rating as food was tasty but very salty and expected more fine dining experience from the food. Seasonal tasting menu is the best value and would return to try other dishes from this option. Tasting menu is available to any diner so the whole table doesn't need to order it which is nice.
The food is amazing, cocktails were delicious, and service was very enjoyable. A great night out.
Very inventive menu excellently prepared and presented always homemade pasta choices, fish choices, meat and fowl ... usually 2 of each excellent cocktails as well all desserts homemade and interesting
Excellent food for a fair price. Service was top notch
