I recently had the pleasure of attending a friend’s wedding at The Pheasant in Dennis, and it truly is an incredible Cape Cod treasure. Set in a beautifully preserved farmhouse that is more than 200 years old, right along Route 6A, the restaurant feels both timeless and welcoming from the moment you arrive.
The food was remarkable. Every dish felt thoughtfully crafted, from the seared dayboat scallops with piccalilli to the braised short rib, all paired with an impressive and well curated wine selection. Each course added to the experience and made the evening feel special without ever feeling overdone.
What truly elevated the night was the hospitality. Renae, the manager, along with his entire team, was outstanding. Attentive, warm, and clearly passionate about what they do, they made sure everything ran seamlessly and that every guest felt genuinely cared for.
The setting itself is just as memorable as the meal. Wide wood floors, exposed beams, and the subtle, comforting scent of a wood burning stove create a warm and inviting atmosphere that is perfect for a celebration or a quiet night out. We had such a great time, and it is easy to see why The Pheasant holds such a special place on the Cape.

Cold and rushed, one seat was against an outside wall and was freezing the other directly across from a heating unit blowing right in my face, server was polite and friendly but rushed us , clearing plates and utensils while we were still eating , both our dinners were very cold

We had dinner at The Pheasant on a dark November Saturday, and I can’t imagine a better time to visit. It’s off-season on the Cape—no traffic, no crowds—but the restaurant was hopping. Every table was full, and I would never recommend showing up without a reservation.
The atmosphere was lovely: warm, softly lit (in the best way), with a faint scent of wood smoke that gave the whole space a cozy, autumnal feel. The clientele was mostly locals and weekenders—people in sweaters, relaxed but clearly here for good food and good wine. It reminded me more of a hidden gem in Boston or New York or Houston than a Cape Cod restaurant, in the best possible way.
Service was attentive throughout (with one mildly odd sommelier interaction that I am still trying to process but didn’t detract from the experience). The pacing was just right for a four-course structure, though we opted to share a second course and each have a third.
Now, the drinks. I cannot overstate how good the dirty martini was—made with The Botanist gin and their house-made pickle brine, garnished with a house-pickled cucumber slice. It was unforgettable, and I’ve been trying to recreate it since. Their wine service was also top-notch: even for wines by the glass, they bring the bottle to your table to pour. I had a Sangiovese that paired beautifully with my main course.
Speaking of which—the seared duck breast with a Cabernet pan sauce was exceptional: tender, flavorful, beautifully presented, accompanied by a silky purple sweet potato purée, tiny perfectly cooked turnips, and a bit of kale. Our shared roasted cauliflower with salsa verde was a standout—generous, perfectly cooked, and full of layered flavor.
We skipped dessert, but judging from the rest of the menu, I have no doubt it would have been excellent.
I have no idea what this place is like in the summer, but for a dark autumn night on the Cape, Pheasant felt absolutely perfect.

Lovely high end restaurant. The service was very attentive and most of the food was very good. However, my fish was overcooked, which was disappointing.

We dined here for my birthday and had an absolutely wonderful experience! The food was delicious, every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Cocktails were creative and delicious. The wait staff were not only attentive and knowledgeable, but also genuinely fun, which made the evening even more enjoyable. From start to finish, everything was top-notch. We truly enjoyed our dining experience and can’t wait to come back!

One of our best dinners on the Cape! We are Californians and not used to massive MA plates of food so we were very content to share all of these nicely portioned smaller dishes. The rich potato millefeuille was delectable and was complimented by the vinegary bite of the watermelon gazpacho we also ordered. The seared mushrooms and giant beans were a hearty, beautifully seasoned intro to Fall that paired well with a French Pinot. The poussin was crisp and tasty. It did take over an hour and a half to get our dishes, which was a bit delayed compared to diners around us, so we ran out of steam for dessert but overall it was lovely.

By far the best restaurant in the entire state! Everything is thoughtful and just simply... good - the produce that tastes of the earth and sea, the seasoning that brings out natural flavors instead of drowning out the senses, the drinks that are innovative without being pretentious, and the staff who are charming, professional but warm. I kept waiting for a shoe to drop and it never did. So glad to have found this spot.

So fantastic!! Easily one of our new favorite restaurants (ever!). Our server was sweet and knowledgeable! We had the Scallops, Pasta and Pork Chop. Everything was amazing!!
We went to Baleine after for dessert cocktails and had a wonderful time there too! We will be back to (both!) places next time we visit the Cape.
The Pheasant is hands down one of the best restaurants on the Cape. From the seasonal menu and drink pairings to the sultry decor and well informed attentive service, I love coming here. It is truly a treat to dine here.
Last night me and my mother sat on the patio to take in the last of the summer evenings dining al fresco. This was our first time on the patio, which was a beautiful setting.
I removed one star due to the patio being a playground for toddlers, while the parents sat back and let their kids run wild. I even heard one of the parents complaint about cars driving in the parking lot where their kids kept running. While I understand the restaurant can’t entirely control guest behavior, you can control what is acceptable in shared spaces.
At a high-end restaurant, guests expect an atmosphere of refinement and most importantly relaxation. When toddlers are allowed to run around a patio unsupervised, the environment quickly shifts from elegant to chaotic. Not only is it disruptive and distracting to those paying for a fine dining experience, but it also creates safety hazards for staff carrying trays and hot dishes. Children deserve to be included in shared spaces, but letting them turn a restaurant patio into a playground is inconsiderate to other diners and unfair to the staff. It’s inappropriate and, frankly, obnoxious in a setting designed for adults to savor a meal in peace.
I hope you can reconsider how you handle toddlers running around the patio. I was looking forward to a relaxing night dining al fresco, and while the service and food was phenomenal, the toddlers and their checked out parents created a chaotic environment putting the safety of the children and servers at risk.
We had a delicious meal, with flavours as fresh as promised. For two people, we had two each of the starters, first courses and main courses and share each, plus one dessert between us. We felt that was plenty (since some reviewers complained about small portions) without overeating , and a great flavour journey. The watermelon gazpacho is a tangy appetizer to wet the taste buds, the salad with cream of goat cheese was actually a revelation, the lamb chops were scrumptious and the mafalde (homemade pasta) simple but outstanding. The shared dessert was a deconstructed strawberry shortcake, just perfect for someone who doesn’t like super sweet desserts. The restaurant is cozy and relaxed, the sommelier helped pick suitable wines (after something we picked turned out to be not so great with our meal). We’ll be back!
