Place itself is very very cute, is the food amazing, no, is it one of the better options on the island yes. The shakshuka is very American, not a bit of spice in it, but as NY’ers we are privy to very good food. So for MV it earns a 4

They had like Miami club style music playing which wasn’t ideal. It’s cute and the food is good but just as expensive as anywhere else.

Behind the Bookstore is an absolute gem - tucked away and full of charm. Everything here is made in-house, and you can taste the difference in every bite. The fresh-baked pastries and bread are next level - flaky, warm, and wildly satisfying. We had a hard time choosing just one, so naturally we didn’t. The drinks are also spot on - well-crafted and balanced, whether you’re going for a latte or something a little stronger. The vibe is relaxed but elevated, and it’s the kind of place you want to linger. A must-visit if you’re in Edgartown looking for a caffeine boost.

If you like exceptionally high-quality pastries, and dark, rich espresso drinks, then this is the place for you. It is not the sugary Disney World version of a café; it offers authentically, thoroughly decadent deliciousness.

Everytime ive been here the food is amazing, the coffee is refreshing and delicious, and the staff are incredibly rude. It's a shame because the atmosphere really is cute but I also don't want to be accosted when I'm ordering a coffee.

Coffee and coffee drinks are decent but service is truly horrible. I was the only costumer ordered 2 drinks and the lady at the cash register forgot one of them! Also it took me 10 mins just to order despite being the only one there!

This was nice. I came here for a nice read while enjoying my coffee and breakfast. I ordered a catado coffee and a cold brew with a breakfast order of Shakshuka. The atmosphere was very relaxing in a very busy Cafe. The coffee was spot on, however the eggs in the Shakshuka was overcooked. I asked one of the staff if they could remake the order for the eggs to be runny and they immediately followed through with kindness. The 2nd time came back extremely mouthwatering with great flavors! The staff did circle around and check on me to see how it came out again and apologise. Thanks so much for the wonderful service! Will be back again!

Lovely place to escape from hot sun, atmosphere magical, under tented roof with strings of little lights. Had lunch here. Hamburgers on brioche buns were delicious. Fries yummy, like McDonalds style. Avocado salad strange. A plop of mushed up avocado was the centerpiece, would be much better if it were chopped. It formed a thick layer over the other ingredients as you ate it, made lettuce wilt and texturally took over whole dish. Maybe Romaine would be better choice to stand up to ingredients, too? Even though it looks like a regular restaurant, it is a place where you order first and sit down. Bar service is at bar. We kept having to get up and down during meal, looking for ketchup, going back to get the side salad they mistakenly left off (btw, a very sparse portion was provided when our guest went back to ask), filling our own waters, that kind of thing. Other tables were doing the same thing. Kind of comical, slapstick.

Each summer I look forward to my daily breakfast (under the tarp) at Behind The Bookstore! The food is fresh, the cappuccinos and lattes are amazing and the pastries are always unique and delicious! The highlight is seeing the same smiling baristas every summer!

We ordered avocado toast and wanted to add eggs . We were at the restaurant at 11:35am which was between change of breakfast and lunch menu. On their menu it did say avocado toast with egg available from 8 am to 3:30 pm. However the staff and cashier were very rude and unhelpful and keep saying they can’t serve egg after 11:30 am. They did not want to accommodate the tourist and didn’t care at all. Maybe they should train their staff and revisit their menu by revising the time . Please see attached menu to confirm they can serve avocado toast with eggs until 3:30 pm. But they refused.
