I am truly impressed with this quaint fine dining restaurant Dentente located in downtown Edgartown. If you’re looking for a luxurious experience, look no further than Dentente! The vibe was sophisticated and peaceful, the outdoor seating was magical, and the food outmatched anything I’ve ever had on the island of Martha’s Vineyard! The staff went above and beyond, and their commitment to customer satisfaction is unmatched. The food was not only beautiful but it was truly a culinary experience! I can’t wait to return next year. Shocking - Chablis was the best part about this meal ! Food is bland , unseasoned lacks the finese the menu describe’s Our starter & main were inedible , when we fed this back to waiting staff , they dealt with it politely . at the end upon paying a hefty £120 bill . The waiter was sarcastic & rude which didn’t feel very professional after feeeding ba o & clearly leaving plates that weren’t edible ! This is not elegant dining and please read all reviews before making your reservation Very disappointing after a day in the vineyard looking forward to our meal

I’ve eaten at Detente consistently over many years, it’s probably my favorite restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard. It’s a little hidden away, so many folks aren’t aware it’s still a convenient option in town. It’s a wonderful combination of great food, a professional staff and good wine list. For Martha’s Vineyard the prices aren’t bad, particularly given the quality. They have both indoor and outdoor seating but it is a seasonal restaurant. A very solid option for either seafood or beef. Highly recommend by both my wife and I.

Detente is BY FAR one of THE BEST RESTAURANTS on Martha's Vineyard and one of the best I've been to the world over. It is such a culinary delight: the innovative flavor combinations, the textures... OMG! Amazing every time! Great for foodies. Try the tasting menu with wine pairing! I'm sure you will love it too. And like me, I'll bet you will find yourself returning again and again. Our expectations were set high but we were underwhelmed with the overall experience for the price. Cocktails were unbalanced and not drinkable. The music selection was odd. Our main issue was the lack of contrasting textures and balance of flavors in the dishes: the appetizer pasta on top of a puree was tasty but all soft and too rich, and melted cheese over a fresh peach salad was unexpected, though the pairing of truffle and peach was flavorful. The local fish was over seasoned. I subbed risotto (gf) for the dish’s intended couscous but found it too to be too creamy and overly seasoned. It was a good meal but with limited time on the Vineyard we’d wished we’d gone elsewhere.

Unfortunately, we had quite the unpleasant experience at Detente this evening. Seeking a fine dining option in MV to celebrate my MILs birthday, we chose Detente after reviewing their menu online. At the time of booking through OpenTable, we were informed there would be a $25 pp + tax cancellation fee imposed by the restaurant should we cancel, so we made sure we found food items on the menu posted online to ensure this was something we wanted to eat. The only time available online was 5:30, which is when they opened, and they sat us at an outdoor table despite us requesting indoor. We were informed by the front desk that the restaurant was “fully booked”, and our request for indoor seating couldn’t be accommodated since they pre-select tables for the registered guests. The restaurant remained more than half empty the entire time we were there, and the menu posted on their website was not what was offered at the restaurant. When I asked our server the reason for this, the server stated the online menu was “outdated”- not helpful for us being out of town and relying on the published menu to make our reservation. We found other items on the limited options offered, and my husband ordered a ribeye cooked medium-rare. The first steak was brought to the table well-done, so we sent it back. The second time the steak came it was cooked to medium temperature, so we requested the manager to come to our table. Susanna came and stated that to her, the steak was fine, and when I explained the misprinted online menu and request for inside service, she stated that the context I gave was “a lot to unpack”. She was extremely unprofessional, but did offer to remove the steak from our bill. I would not recommend this restaurant to those familiar with and expecting a fine dining experience. Drinks- mediocre, lobster risotto- overcooked, cod- decent. Seek options elsewhere.

On a beautiful night we visited Detente and were seated in the lovely courtyard. Every dish was an incredible and inventive mix of flavors, beautifully presented. The recommended wines we ordered were amazing, perfectly complimenting each course. And the service was also fantastic. Attentive and knowledgeable.
If I am ever back on the Vineyard, I will make sure to return to Detente...

Exceptional in every way! A lovely experience and foodie surprise. We dined at the bar impromptu and had the loveliest time. Perfect French Chablis by the glass. Lobster Risotto, Rare Tuna, Seared Seabass...All were a gourmet delight. Our bartender was knowledgable, attentive, and charming. Everything truly was perfect in every way. Definitely worth the visit.

The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. The outdoor patio is stunning, the food is fantastic, and the atmosphere could not be more charming. Unfortunately, our service experience took away from what could have been a perfect night.
We were a group of four, all 25 years old, and one friend forgot their ID. Our server checked with the manager, who decided they couldn’t serve that friend alcohol, which we completely understood and respected.
However, after that, the tone of our service changed dramatically. The server became noticeably curt and dismissive, and when our friend (without the ID) took a sip from another friend’s drink, the server gave an extremely long, disapproving glare that made the table uncomfortable.
While we understand and respect alcohol service laws, we do not think that should result in an openly hostile attitude toward guests. The food and setting deserve 5 stars, but the service unfortunately brought the overall experience down.

We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Détente during our trip to Martha’s Vineyard. It was a flawless experience from start to finish. Truly fine dining at its best with exceptional service and unforgettable food. We enjoyed our meal outside on their patio.
To start, we shared the lobster risotto and the peach salad (a special the night we dined in July), both beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. For our entrées, I had the pan seared halibut. It was perfectly cooked and full of vibrant summer flavors! I loved it. My husband throughly enjoyed the pork rib chop al pastor, which was juicy and flavorful.
We ended the evening with their bread pudding, the perfect sweet finish to an outstanding meal. Highly recommend for a special occasion or any night you want to treat yourself to an exceptional dining experience.
