We have stopped at the Freight House several times traveling from central New York to the Boston area over the past 10 years. We have bought a few things and have always enjoyed the hermit bar cookies. We usually ask to use the restroom seeing this is the midpoint of our trip. We don't mind that they require you to purchase something to use the bathroom. However, today we paid for our hermit bars and iced tea, my wife was given the code. I had to hold her purse and jacket before she was allowed to enter. The woman behind the counter was staring at me and told the man there that he needed to close the bathroom saying she can not believe how rude people are all the while looking at me. Finally I said look we will never come in there again and she told me good they don't want us coming in to use the bathroom. I explained that we always stop if they are open and have really enjoyed food and beverages over the years. At that point my wife came out of the bathroom and we left. I sure did not dare to tell that I had to go too. I held it until Stewarts in Bennington where I used the bathroom and bought gas, coffee and pizza. My conclusion is that if you would like to enjoy your stop at the Freight House whatever you do. Do not ask to use the bathroom!!!

Funky "rest stop" on the way west ( or east). Nicest folks with great treats in the cafe. You can get lost for hours perusing the wares in their retail spaces, too.

Two friends and I were on a road trip from Boston to Deerfield on Saturday, November 11th. Along the way, while driving through Erving, we approached Freight House Antiques; a store I had been in about 8 or 9 times before (and really liked!). I told my friends how "great" this store is, and asked if they wanted to stop in and see all the "cool stuff" and they agreed, so I pulled in.As we approached, both of my friends said they needed to use the restroom before we started shopping. Friend #1 saw the sign on the restroom door that said you had to buy something in order to use the restroom (which was conveniently hung right next to a clear box on the wall, where people could leave "tips"). He said he "would definitely buy something, but really needed to use the restroom first". He was then told by the lady there (not sure if she was a manger, or the owner, or whatever) that he had to buy something *BEFORE* he could get the code to unlock the restroom. I thought that was absurd, especially since we hadn't even had a chance to look around yet, but he reluctantly agreed, and grabbed a can of soda. He put the soda on the counter, went to pay with his debit card, and was informed that they "don't take cards". He had no cash on him, so he had to come and find me, and luckily I had some cash on me (but what if I didn't?).When he was done, friend #2 said she needed to use the restroom as well. At first, I figured the three of us were there "together" so the one purchase already made would be good enough for all of us, but just to be fair, she picked out a drink to buy, but also didn't have any cash on her (and once again, had to borrow some from me). We thought this was absolutely crazy, but that was only the beginning. After her purchase, she was then told that she couldn't bring her bag into the rest room with her (something about people flushing stuff down the toilet, or whatever). She (rightfully so) said she did not want to leave her bag (with her phone, wallet, keys, credit cards, etc). with someone she doesn't know, so she had to come find us (again!) to babysit her bag while she used the restroom. I thought that was crazy - what if she needed things from her bag (makeup, etc.) as most women do, while she was in there? This whole experience left a VERY bad impression on us - so bad, we barely even looked around after we were done with the restroom, and don't think we will ever go back. Bottom line is, there were so many better ways this could have been handled. First of all, TAKE CREDIT CARDS (and don't say there's a $5 minimum, ether, which is illegal). I totally get it, if I owned a store, I wouldn't want people constantly coming in just to use my restroom either, but requiring customers to go through all this process (and purchase) first was just ridiculous. Taking credit cards, and having a public restroom are just two parts of owning a business like this. If you don't want your customers to feel welcome and comfortable, then you shouldn't even be in business, or at least know when it's the right thing to do to make an exception. It's not as if this store is in a bad part of town, where people would constantly use their restrooms to shoot up drugs. We were just three totally regular customers, more than willing to shop around and buy something (and maybe even post a positive review of the store), until we were inconvenienced and embarrassed by this store's ridiculous policies.

Not service pet friendly. Be aware if you have a service dog that you will be asked to leave.

Rude staff. Find a different cafe if you want to be treated with respect.

This facility does not follow ADA laws or practices. It does not allow service animals. Terrible service and management. Do not waste your time.

My buddies and I came across Freight House Antiques on a very spontaneous and sudden whim. I had been hungry and wanted something local and as we passed by the signs for coffee and whatnot, we decided to turn around and take a chance. I'm more than glad that we did, because this is honestly a spot I would drive out of the way for to visit again for both their in-house made chocolate chip cookies, and freshly made lobster rolls.Aside from the cool and one-of-a-kind antiques that you'll find here, their kitchen is what makes me want to go back immediately. It's like an old school diner type of experience, and everything gets made right before you by those standing behind the counter. I was afforded the opportunity to try out their cookies by another traveler (thank you so much, L!!!) and I was over the moon! From the outside, they're thick and look as though they could have a more baked bread-y inside, but let me be the first to tell you that they are rich and moist! I love these cookies and that's it!!!The lobster roll was a Labor Day weekend special, and my goodness! This is how you make a lobster roll, y'all. Big, juicy, full of flavor! So simple at the same time because they use about only five ingredients to make it, depending on how you want it done (butter vs. mayonnaise). The side potato salad was also awesome and I'd order more of it on its own.I did not get to try their homemade pies, but I will definitely go back to try them next time after I've ordered about a dozen of their cookies. The brownies are just as good and pretty much everything is able to stand on its own here. With all of that being said, due to this having been a completely random stop, I had not seen the previous Yelp reviews beforehand. All I can say is that I was not there to see all of what transpired go down, and so obviously my own unique experience is very biased and personal to me. The staff running the place were pretty welcoming and kind to us, and it's definitely a different era of an establishment versus the year 2023 in some regards. This both has its pros and cons, clearly.Plus, the business is still "unclaimed", therefore, Yelp is the one ultimately removing certain reviews for violating their Terms of Service.Free parking in their private lot is available outside, and there's many treasures to find here. I would have bought up a lot had I visited on my own with all of the awesome wares I came across. Thank you~!

This place is anti Disability and anti Service animals. Don't bother with this place, the manager is the rudest person I have ever heard.

They were highly rude and dismissive, felt uncomfortable shopping there. I can not recommend shopping there enough.

Entitled, pathetic, bitter staff. For somewhat of a struggling business (because what succeeding business has a contribution box?, but thats besides the point), you would imagine this family has more appreciation and care for potential customers, but no. I was so excited to take my grandmother to a new antique shop for my late summer visit but was quickly regretful when she needed to go to the restroom and came back looking for me to "contribute" in order for her to be able to alleviate herself. When I had asked what she meant by that(??), she further explained they had denied her access unless she paid for anything we were looking at or contributed to the store??? I obviously contributed to let my grandmother use their closet size restroom, but immediately decided to leave whatever we had in our hands and have a better time shopping at another antique shop just down the street!! I will admit it wasn't as nicely themed as they have their bar here but had a much better experience and gratitude for our antique finds after shopping and buying from the other one!! Upon reading older reviews, I've come to find they're simply miserable towards any and everybody :-D even dogs, service animals at that!!! If you plan to have an adventurous day. avoid this place to your own benefit. You'll probably find better deals, cuter finds and lovely staff ANYWHERE ELSE. But here.If the owners dare delete this post, I'll be back.

They are not ADA compliant and horribly rude. They need training to learn how to follow federal law. Whoever was in charge was an absolute horrible example of a human being, with zero empathy for others.

Cute little place right off Route 2. The corn chowder was great. We shared a chicken salad wrap with a ton of chicken in it. Very tasty.Plus, you can get antiques, too.

refused access to a lady with a service dog, interrupted her repeatedly when told it was illegal to do so, asked for made up paperwork to proof the legitimacy of service dog when there is no such thing as service dog registration documents and was extremely nasty and rude when told that.
