I hired an ice cream truck for a 6-hour nonprofit event. I was told that I would need to pay $200 at most based on sales. 90 minutes into the event, the driver said he was leaving because sales were too slow. I had to pay him $650 to stay at the event. I couldn't let my guests down after promising an ice cream truck. When I mentioned the issue to the owner after the event, he said he had two trucks out of service and needed to subcontract to a 3rd party. None of that was ever communicated to me. I was scammed.

We asked these folks to come by our office at 3PM. We had a cook out and mini golf course set up and wanted ice cream to go with our afternoon get together. At 3:01 I received a call from the driver of the ice cream truck saying he was running late and that he could be there in 20 minutes. I asked him to continue. At about 4PM he arrived in our parking lot. Most of our team had already left for the day. He was set up by 4:15, we wanted to just tell him to forget about it but I wanted to the driver bring in some money for himself. By 4:30PM he had served 10 or 12 ice creams and we were done. We had 40 people at the meeting but most were gone by now. I asked the driver what I owed him and he handed me his cell phone. The person on the phone with me (which I believe was the company owner and this driver's father). Asked what was wrong, I told him I was looking for how much I owed them for the ice cream. He told me that he believed we booked an arrival window of 3-4:30PM. I asked him to review his email from me, I was looking for them to be with us from 3 to 4:30PM. He said now I owe him double. He was now looking for $400 from me for a dozen ice cream bars. The mini golf company, our guess speaker and the people that did our cook out were all on time and got paid on the spot. I told them to give me a responsible invoice and I would pay it, the guy on the phone said $400 again, I told him they were late and missed our event I would not pay that much. I strongly suggest that you stay away from this company, we will never use them again. They called the police and told them we would not pay for the ice cream. We shared our story with the police officer and he agreed with us. Poor service does not warrant extra money.
