My husband and I went for a spontaneous dinner on a weeknight. We had no idea what to expect. The atmosphere is nice, but very open/echo-y and if it had been busy would have been very loud. But it wasn't busy, and when we were there it was very pleasant. They brought bread with herbed parmesan oil when they came to take our drink order and it was very good. We would have ordered more if there had been an opportunity. We both loved our main dishes. I got Tandoori kebabs (very flavorful, just perfect!) and he got the Mongolian duck. Here's the odd thing, though. My plate had so much food I could barely finish half. My husband's was a tiny portion -- I knew the second they put it in front of him he was thinking "that's it?" He said it was delicious, but he was still very hungry when he'd finished. I gave him half of my meal. They're both under the "chef's favorites" part of the menu and the duck is the more expensive (not surprising, it's duck) so the discrepancy in size was a bit weird. But the flavors were great. We got decaf coffees and all in all enjoyed the meal. But be aware of what you're getting. If you have a hungry person with you, you may want to order extra sides or appetizers. We got a beer, a cocktail, two entrees, and two coffees. The total was about $100. We'll definitely go back; the food was THAT good. But we'll know to order more than we would at other restaurants. Side note: We always check out gluten free options as we have celiac members of our family, and were told most things on their menu can be GF. Great to know.
So, the saga of our anniversary dinner on a snowy night. We were heading to the North End, but after a slow-ish ride on Rte. 9 and a glance at a couple of I-90 accidents and lots of orange and red on Google maps, we decided to punt and figure out where else to have dinner. Larry pulled into Framingham Center while I perused nice restaurant options in the area. Noting on the map, checking the website, and at the same time seeing 10-month old Silk Global Cuisine right there in Framingham Center, we decided to give it a try. What a find! An excellent anniversary dinner! Go look and see their Silk Road menu, ranging from the Mediterranean to Asia. We had Mongolian lentil nachos; slow cooked duck confit, caramelized onions, olives, sautéed orzo with pomegranate & balsamic glaze; Marrakesh bouillabisse with tomato saffron Sauce, aioli, and pesto garlic bread.
Had a leisurely dinner and drinks with friends. All could find something they liked with the menu that featured the cuisine of all cultures along the Silk Road. All enjoyed their meal and drinks. Feta cheesecake and cocktails were great.
I went out to dinner on Monday night with 2 friends. They wanted to split a dinner salad and an entrée and when our order arrived at our table, they asked for extra plates so that they could share. The waitress pointed to the bread plates and said “Those are your extra plates.” We said, no, we want the full-size plates so they can split the meal/salad, and the waitress replied “I’m sorry big plates are in the kitchen, those are your extra plates.” *points at small bread plates* By this point, I’m incredulous and ask, “Seriously, you cannot bring us an empty plate?“ and she insisted she could not. So my friends split their meals on these small bread plates, which was not ideal. About five minutes later, she comes out with three big plates and we told her now it’s too late and she replied, with a little attitude “But I went into the kitchen and asked them for you!” It was unreal and I've never experienced anything like this before. It was a Monday night and there were no more than 10 other diners in the restaurant. The lamb tzatziki was delicious as were the tandoori chicken kebabs. The Fatoosh salad was nothing special.
Silk Global is a panoply of ethnic foods and signature dishes from, quite literally, around the world. I have visited the place 3 times in the past 10 days, both for lunch and dinner. Because of some bureaucratic mishap it was listed as an Indian restaurant; and though it does have some Indian "inspired" dishes it is most definitely not an Indian eatery. There are apps and entrees from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Notwithstanding my previous denial, I strongly urge you to try the "deconstructed" samosas, bearing no resemblance to the original fried pouch stuffed with heavily spiced potatoes and vegetables. Also sample any of the flat breads. My personal favorite is the Turkish Lahmacun topped with ground lamb and beef and sprinkled with feta cheese on a soft pillowy bread infused with herbs and spices. I would also recommend the house made gnocchi with shredded braised short ribs; hearty and tasty. The Moroccan fish stew is a clear success with a fennel and saffron fish stock and perfectly poached white fish and seafood accompanied by a baton of toasted garlic herbed french bread. The service is polite and for the most part prompt though some menu items do take time since almost everything is made in house. The owner chef, Dev, trained in France, is a charming and extraordinarily talented man. Framingham has been without an international menu locus for a very long time. The drought has finally ended. Go. You will not be disappointed.
My friends and I stopped into Silk after a theater performance, late in the evening. We were warmly welcomed by Shannon, the bartender/hostess. The menu offers quality Mediterranean/Asian-style food. We tried a number of the tapas plates and some well-made desserts. Compared to good restaurants which I have enjoyed, internationally and in the States, this establishment more than holds its own in fine fashion. The chef knows what he is doing. And Shannon, the bartender/hostess, establishes an upbeat rapport with the customer. I definitely will return to Silk.
