still like this place and will keep going back. I like the whole menu I like the atmosphere and I like the view. There's always something to entertain.
This place needs a serious overhaul - RUDE RUDE RUDE AWFUL SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!
I work in Greenfield down the street from Catalpa and come regularly and generally always order the same drink which is two shots of espresso over ice. It always comes in the smaller, clear, iced beverage cup. Ordered same drink today and they served it to me in the tiniest, white cup with 3 ice cubes (the micro cup meant for hot espresso shots). I asked why and the barista said that's their policy - that if I want to add oat milk or cream to my iced espresso quote "they have to put it in that cup". This is absurd, I just wanted espresso over ice with a splash of oat milk in it (not a latte) The baristas were super rude and completely disinterested in proper customer service from the gate.
I left actually shocked at how unreal and off putting the entire experience was. Both baristas working were talking to one another, never smiled once or acted remotely engaged - my espresso sat pulled on the espresso machine for 5 minutes while one ate behind the counter and the other one chatted with the barista that was eating. Who owns this place? It's pretty bewildering how poorly the customer service has been the last several times I've been there and this experience solidified that I will never be coming back.
Side note - In a former life, I worked at a very busy, popular coffee shop as a barista for a handful of years. Our staff rocked and the owner was incredible and this type of service and behavior would NEVER have flown there. Is bad customer service just a sign of the times or what?

Be warned that the creamers on the counter are not for customers who have purchased the most expensive drinks on the menu, like lattes that, as others have noted, are made too strong for most. If you add a little milk to your latte from the pitchers on the counter you will be accused of not paying $1 more for a larger drink. I was shocked since most cafés base the cost of their drinks on the number of shots of espresso.
Being told that if using the milk on the counter is equivalent to "getting a larger drink" is an interesting hill to lose a customer on.
Even when you use your own cup (which is better for our planet, earning you a discount at many shops) expect obvious judgement and side-eye and if you modify your drink with the fixings they have out.
(To be clear, I am NOT talking about purchasing just the espresso and filling the cup up with milk, which, I agree, is shady.)
My family has loved coming here because the drinks and pastries are killer, but nothing can replace being treated with kindness and fairness, and sadly, Catalpa has a lot of room to grow and has lost some loyal fans.

I took a few months break from Catalpa, but the issues still remain. Overly bitter espresso (tastes like the machine needs cleaning), poorly steamed milk (the lattes are lukewarm), poor customer service (the baristas seem disengaged), and finally latte art that seems not worth the sacrifice it has on the drink. If the local area had a barista conpetition, I think Catalpa woulnd't place in the top ten, and I don't think there are even ten coffee places around here.
The baked pastries are fresh and delicious, and there is a good variety to choose from. The expresso drinks are expertly made, and there is always something intriguing offered as a special. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, whether you are sharing time with a friend or working on your laptop. This is a popular spot, so the seating can fill up at times, so plan accordingly.

I have tried to stick with this coffee shop, but I can no longer look past my own dissatisfaction. You will occasionally get a decent espresso beverage here. More likely, you will get over-extracted espresso and milk at completely undrinkable temperatures (tepid, scorching). I'm not wasting money here anymore. The people are nice but they need better training and, very likely, higher wages, since I know how much the owners sqeeze their shops.

Great shop! Love the wide windows and high top tables facing them. Very pretty and not overwhelming inside! The cortado was one of the best I've ever had, fruity, complex, flavorful, and Soo espressoey! The drip was alright. Advertised as a light roast but tasted a little burnt/baggy.Didn't get to try any of the food but it all looks (and smells ?) great.Got a bag of decaf I'm excited to try at home!Staff was very friendly too :D

They know how to make a cappuccino the way you want it.
Very tasty. Loved the Spinach Croissant. I have to say the place has an air of Old New England, and the staff are bright and assist well.

Starbucks vibe but without corporate ownership. This independently owned coffee spot hosts deliciously crafted coffee, macha, and homemade treats with a vegan-friendly menu. Be sure to stop in after visiting the other shops downtown.
