Great food, friendly staff, service was excellent. and a piano player throughout the evening.
We wanted to try something new, and chose Groton Station House for dinner. We made a reservation since it was valentines weekend, and they were busy. Our server Dana was excellent, very attentive and on the ball. Very nice restaurant, off the main drag, so a little hidden. Glad we tried it though. They have a main dining room and a lounge area, both areas seated for dinner. If you’ve tried the other great Groton area restaurants, the Station House is just as delightful. They have a good wine list, not too long, and quality choices. The rolls were warm and delish. They have a very manageable and competent menu. Decent variety for a restaurant their size. The appetizers were a tough choice, all looked great. We started with Calamari, and I got a small Caesar. Dana recommended the soup of the day a pork carnitas soup, and my wife got that, which Dana described accurately as having a little heat. Calamari and soup were excellent, salad was very good, albeit very slightly under-dressed. The steaks were both very tender, seasoned to perfection and cooked flawlessly to medium rare temp. The sides were for the most part excellent. The broccolini, asparagus, and spinach were all excellent. On balance, the only miss of the night was the Mac-n-cheese, which honestly was mac-n-cream sauce. It was kinda bland, and not cheesy, creamy yes, cheesy no. Can’t leave this review without a strong mention on the outstanding cup of coffee. One of the best restaurant coffees I’ve ever had. Very smooth, not even a hint of bitter ness or burnt. I was delighted to end the night with a perfect cup of coffee. All in all, excellent service from Dana, great wine selections, deliciously prepared meals, and a flawless cup of coffee. We’ll surely be back.
Truly awful dining experience in a beautiful building. If you have two hours to kill and don’t want the meal you ordered this is your place. Otherwise stay away.
The Groton Station House delivered a great experience for a fair price. Every dish we had (4 dinners and deserts) was well prepared, well balanced, and delicious. Service was there when you needed, comfortable yet professional. Portions are just right. The quality of the food was high and the preparation was very well done. The restored 1915 firehouse is beautifully restored and appointed with all the details covered. While there were not too many customers when we were there, the acoustics of the room allowed for easy conversation. We definitely will be back and would highly recommend this establishment.
We happened on this restaurant through its website and were very pleased with our choice. It was elegant but not price-inflated. There was low volume music so we could easily have a conversation. Our waiter Matt was friendly and attentive. Thank you for a relaxed and lovely evening.
After a year, the Station House reopened with indoor dining a little relaxed; we were glad and looking for forward to a nice evening. The problems began with the waiter, a nice young man with all the good intentions in the world, but he was new at the job and nervous, so we forgave him the foul-ups. He did not know the expression "on the rocks," which is exactly how some of us like our drinks---including martinis, not straight-up. Despite clear instructions, the drinks came "straight-up." Not the first time at the Station House. The dinner plates were new: shaped like an amalgam of a gull wing crossed with a flying saucer---aesthetically beautiful, but the knife and fork kept falling off the plate; they are awkward; let's go back to round dinner plates so that the utensils do not wind up on the floor, which they did . . . twice. The duck was delicious, as was the medley of rice and vegetables, but duck breast is served SLICED on the bias and sitting in its juices, not cut in half. The chef should have known better. And the restaurant still has not installed a cappuccino machine so the coffee arrived with flavored cream, or was the coffee flavored; I am not sure which. I like this restaurant; I like the people who work there, but there is some detailing which really needs attention. Wine list is much improved. Choices have been expanded in the food and seafood lines. Salads continue to be spot-on fresh and tasty. But there are some elements which really need some work. And I thought that the chairs used to have arms on them. Without arms, it is not easy for the elderly to get up from the table.
I thought this restaurant was finished before it got started, thanks to the pandemic. I heard via the local grapevine that it was open again. We drove by and poked our heads in at 4:30pm before a posted 5pm opening and they made room for us for dinner. We arrived promptly at 5 and were seated at a banquette in the bar. We had a wonderful chat with Andrew McElroy who made a point of connecting with each new arrival. The restaurant is very attractive, originally built in 1915 as a fire house. The McElroy family has done an amazing, inviting and comfortable job of restoring and renovating the building. The outdoor patio is inviting, with a fire pit and generous seating. I started with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc entitled “Infamous Goose” from Marlborough New Zealand. I could smell the pear notes as soon as it hit the table! I ordered Lobster Risotto and had to force myself to eat slowly. I wanted to gobble it up! My husband had the Crusted Cod with red pepper puree which he liked very much. We shared a luscious, creamy Creme Brûlé, perfectly crusted and topped with fresh raspberries and blackberries. I was thrilled to have such a marvelous meal five miles from home in a town that I love. I cannot wait to share with my daughters and their families.
Excellent upscale restaurant in down-town Groton! A must visit when you are in town or live nearby. The staff was very friendly and food was amazing!! I had a delicious cocktail at the bar while we waited for our table. Atmosphere is elegant, friendly and inviting! We also met the owner, he was at the door as we were leaving, he made a point of saying goodbye and thanking us for coming. We can't wait to go back to their out door patio!
Excellent place! Only been there once, both the food and staff were great. Been back to the bar a few times for the terrific Caesar salad and drinks. Great atmosphere, on the unique side, with very comfortable seating. Definitely worth the visit!
Was at Lawrence Academy touring the school with my Daughter. Decided to have dinner in town before we left. The Groton Station House was beautiful and food was great. Unfortunately we lost track of time and left a little late for home but we really wanted to have dessert. We will definitely be back!

We had an absolutely great experience. The staff is friendly, helpful, and good with allergy concerns. My Husband had the chicken and I had the steak. Both were portioned well and tasted great. For wine fans, they have a great selection including some hard to find favorites. Dessert was surprisingly good! I really shouldn't of had it but it was calling my name! It was a unique find just off the main road in Groton. We originally were supposed to have dinner behind the Inn but found that location too loud so someone local recommend to go here. Glad we did!
We were there to celebrate my daughters birthday. The cocktails were great as were the appetizers. My main course was the starker chicken and while the chicken and the broccolini were quite good, I have to say I did not care for the starch side that came with the dish by default. It was completely tasteless and had absolutely no flavor. Service was great and ambience is classy. Will return but perhaps pick something else for dinner next time.
Manager lost 5 customers who will tell an average of 17 people each (proven fact) about their experience. My husband's motto for our business is that the client is always right -- even when they're wrong. If one of our clients has a problem, first we get the bad taste out of their mouth and then determine if we had any part in causing the problem. If we contributed in any way, our service is free. I was not looking for a free dinner (which she offered too late). I was basically looking for an apology, explanation or a token. Her reason for doing nothing "because I was taking my dinner home". I took my pork chop home so that I could wash it off as it was like eating a mouthful of salt. This reason totally angered me. If there had been a sincere apology and she had done something as small as taking the cake cutting fee of $7.50 off the bill, I would have been back.
We made this reservation to celebrate my 40th birthday, we invited 3 other couples that live in our neighborhood in Westford. We had an 8:30 reservation and for the most part we had a nice time until the end which will be the part that we'll most likely share with other people when they ask how was the Station House. My wife had snuck in a cake that she had gotten for me with a picture of me on it, which was very nice. So when dessert came we all sang and then the waiter cut it up and brought everyone a slice. Then on the bill they tried to charge us $24 for a cake cutting fee! Which is outrageous and we had to catch it and the waiter said that it was an error because his manager also charged us, which still doesn't make sense because it was 3X higher and maybe the manager should have come by to apologize but they were probably long gone because it felt like we were the last people there and it was only 10:30 on a Saturday night. The staff was already in the parking lot when we left and our server had already taken off his vest. It's too bad because the food and atmosphere were great but the ending left a bad taste in our mouth.
The service was amazing and the food was good. The ambiance was a bit off due to the really loud guy sitting next to us but the staff was more than accommodating and let us move to another table. We will be back!
