This small museum is packed with well-presented information about many things nautical. We came away with a deeper appreciation of the skill, courage and hard work needed to traverse the oceans. The staff was friendly and helpful. This museum clearly has been created by people who love it and love the lore of sailing. We easily spent two hours here.

We've driven past this little museum many times in the past but never stopped in. Friends suggested we visit with them so we stopped by. This little building is chock full of interesting maritime exhibits, from a scrimshaw display, sailors valentines, detailed model ships, ancient navagation equipment, etc etc. and that's just up stairs, downstairs is a boatbuilding workshop and outside is a boat shed with interesting small boats. A fun informative trip and the staff was more than willing to answer any questions and provided a lot of insight. We'll be back. We signed up for their newsletter to get info on new displays.

SMALL ON THE OUTSIDE BUT FITTING AN AMAZING AMOUNT OF STUFF ON THE INSIDE. I had 2 hours to burn before my NANTUCKET ferry from a nearby pier. I thought this modestly sized place might fill one of them. KIDDING!! I could have spent another 2 hours and even then not covered all (there’s a couple days interesting reading in the downstairs library alone). Here’s the thing – this place has just about everything you want to know about maritime happenings – not only NEW ENGLAND but world wide. Stacks of ship/boat models and actual examples of maritime equipment back in the day, educational stuff (want to know why accurate navigation had to wait until the intro of accurate sea-going clocks - or about tsunamis?), Lotsa maritime art also. Fancy browsing the gift shop? And downstairs – a big section where retired shipwrights are restoring donated small craft and equipment and are happy to shoot the bull, plus a big library where I got lost for too much time checking out AMERICA;S CUP/NEWPORT RI stuff seeing I was heading there soon (almost missed my ferry, so interesting was this). Gets better – OUTSIDE on the lower level is an area where restored donated craft are for sale and a surprisingly spacious courtyard ideal for picnics etc. The museum’s parking area adjacent could prove useful too. SUM UP – make space on your dance card for this great attraction – it is far more than just a time-filler.

We stopped here on our way out of Cape Cod and found it to be a small, but interesting museum. The lady at the front desk was friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the artifacts and the artwork. We liked looking at the boats in the barn. The small gift shop was fun to do Christmas shopping.

We stopped in because one of our party is a sailing enthusiast. The rest of us enjoyed it as well, and we even got our own private tour of the actual boats in the collection. The artwork in the gallery is amazing.
