Perfect spot for a cold, snowy day! Great cozy atmosphere with rich & unique history. We had dinner and shared a salad, with entrées and dessert. Big kudos to their portion sizes (VERY generous) and everything we ate was delicious! Not the most vegetarian-friendly, but I enjoyed my meal nonetheless. Extensive wine & cocktail menu, and I’ll be dreaming about the caramel bread pudding!

Cocktails were fantastic. The GF items were clearly marked and staff was knowledgeable of celiac concerns. One of my drinks was garnished with an orange despite telling them about an orange allergy. Server was ok, but the rest of the staff were great.
The portions were very generous and good value. I got three meals out of my steak. It was still delicious reheated. App was great and we were too full for dessert.
I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. Each room has a different theme/purchase. It has a lot of personality. It was such a cozy spot on a cold winter evening. It's a special place and we both look forward to returning.

The 1640 Hart House is a great resturant that serves traditional American fare. The food is excellent and a full bar service too. It has several dining rooms. The interior of the home was dimantled and assembled in the Metroploitan Museum in NYC. Then it was meticulously reproduced and installed so it looks exactly as it did before.

What can we say? Kim, Jim, and the entire Hart House family made our Wedding Day the most incredible celebration. Kim is an expert and made us feel at ease every step of the planning process. Jim and the folks in the kitchen made the most terrific meal that our guests are still talking about 3 months later. All the staff is professional, friendly, and brought as much fun to the floor as our guests. Everyone at the Hart House turned it out for us and we could not be more grateful!

We have been going to the Hart House for dinner since we moved to Ipswich in 2017. This review has been a long time coming!
The food at the Hart House is always fresh and delicious. The imaginative seasonal dishes that the chef’s come up with are always worth ordering. Last spring, we tried an asparagus tart with goat cheese and right now they have a peach panzanella salad.
The staff at the Hart House are nothing short of super people. We like to sit at the bar, where we receive attentive and thoughtful service. The waitstaff who come by the server station always smile and say hi and it really seems like everyone who works here enjoys where they are; which makes the dining experience very enjoyable.
Sometimes it takes a little while to get a seat, which makes sense for how popular this restaurant is. Even when waiting a few, you’re always offered a drink while you wait.
I can’t recommend this place highly enough! Special shout outs to Jackie, Maddie, Kiera, Todd, and Megan who are the only ones I know by name but with their whole crew make this a special place. Thanks everyone :)
PS- if you’re very tall, watch your head.

As an Italian tourist, I've visited the area three times over the years to see my friends in Middleton. This restaurant is our top choice for a delightful dinner, offering incredible American cuisine in a relaxed yet special setting. It's truly one of my global favorites.
My wife and I had our wedding reception at 1640 and it was perfect. The owner, Kim, was a tremendous help and everything went swimmingly. Our head server, Libby, was a pro as well. The food, drinks, decor and service were all 10/10. I've been back for dinner multiple times since and I'm going again soon.
