Good fried seafood.
This was the type of place we were hoping to find on a Thursday night. Our tastes are limited but we are fussy. The onions pizza was great, even down to the edge pieces of crust, which were not hard and chewy. Also, friendly staff and quick service. Cash only was a surprise but we had it. A plus was parking right outside our window so we could see the dog and felt guilty when the dog looked back.

I heard a lot of good things about this place finally tried it.Was not overally impressed.Buffalo tenders were not good,House salad was very basic.Steak tips were good with rice pilaf. Kind of and old fashion atmosphere which I didn't care for.
Felt rushed also. One positive was the portions are good size.

Never a bad meal! Plate portions enough for 4 people to share! Our wait staff, Jennifer, was an outstanding server. She anticipated our needs with a smile every time. See you soon!
Went there yesterday for the first time. The food was so good and so much of it.It's a must on my list for more trips
This is the rudest waitstaff I have ever encountered! We walked in through the big green awning and were totally ignored. The waitress walked by us purposefully pretending we weren’t standing there waiting. After the third time by we said hi with a smile less than a foot away and was ignored next time by we said hello and ignored, 3rd time we ask if there was a table or bar seats for two. She snarled “no” without acknowledging we were standing there and walked off, her ugly disposition in full effect. We immediately left and drove to Essex where at The James they smiled and welcomed us.
This place is a townie treasure.
The clam plate is huge, fresh, and reasonably priced.
After a morning with my two daughters in Newburyport, we headed through what I call "The Best Fried Seafood County" in the USA. Growing up in Essex County, I've dined in almost every good "Clam Joint" and rate some spots in Ipswich as the Very Best. On the ride through downtown Ipswich, my daughters noticed The Choate Bridge Pub that is/was new to me. I can say now after a truly superb Lunch, I consider this restaurant as a special Clam Joint as one of, if not the Best Provider of Fried Clams and Sea Scallops. We sat in the bar section of the restaurant where locals often select for a quick lunch and conversation. We were met by our Server, Dina, who took a drink order and gave us time to decide on entrees. Over an Ipswich IPA, a glass of Pinio Grigio and a tasty Lemonade, it didn't take us long to decide on Ipswich Fried Clam and super sweet New England Sea Scallop plates. When I asked for an order of Onion Rings, Dina pointed out that our plates could include both Tasty Fries and Onion Rings. She also asked how much I like Tartar Sauce with my seafood, and voila, out came 6 individual containers of special in-house made Tartar Sauce spiced to perfection with tiny pickle pieces. The Clam and Scallop Plates arrived looking like the chef had built a small mountain on our plates. Just take a look at the photos attached and I'm sure you'll marvel at all the seafood. With several visits by Dina wondering if we could finish the plates, we spent quite an enjoyable time with clearing our plates. The Scallops were as sweet as any I've dined on near the New Bedford scalloper docks, and the Clams were surely from the Ipswich local flats with small to medium sized "Best of Class" soft-shelled clams. Dina was a wonderful Server, both informative and attentive to all her customers. The restaurant itself has a real New England appeal both locals as well as tourists. As for myself, I will be dining at The Choate Bridge Pub as often as I return locally to visit family. I'm happy to give 5-Stars here and I think you might well too if you enjoy high quality Seafood.
I go for the seafood (fried clams or scallops). Downside, you can't get a combination clam/scallop dinner, but either choice is excellent. I order my choice with just onion rings; both the seafood and onion rings are not at all greasy. The seafood platters are delicious, best in the area!

This restaurant is so so amazing and the seafood is absolutely delicious! Inside is quite unassuming but once you try the food you will keep going back. For fried seafood order the appetizer portion because for the scallops there were thirty or so large ones and the shrimp plate size was also massive. Lobster roll is good and not as expensive as the ones you see nowadays in many seafood restaurants. This place definitely should keep its title as best restaurant in Ipswich.
I usually go here for lunch. Mostly on a Monday . Jen the bartender is awesome. So nice and great at what she does. Today I went for lunch when Reagan was working and she is just as wonderful. Great service and food. Lol. Ordered the scallop plate. Im pretty sure that's a meal for at least 3 people. 😃 Love the Choate. Old school New England.
The staff were so friendly and extremely on point , the food was delicious and well portioned, couldn't be happier , we all left with full stomachs and smiles . Very clean and comfortable place to eat and enjoy conversations ,
Stopped in for a couple beers & an appetizer
The bartender was super friendly & we enjoyed our chicken fingers. Can't wait to come back for a meal.
