Interesting sushi buffet. Very crowded, be prepared to wait to be seated. Once seated, if you select the buffet option, you then order from a list of offerings, standard sushi/sashimi fare. Trick is to account for the time between orders and keeping track of what you ordered so that you don't order too much, since they do charge a ka carte prices for items left over to discourage food waste. You have a 2 hrs time limit, but that's plenty of time. If you bring your appetite, you're in for a treat. If you didn't, then order from the menu. I'm an eater, so I highly recommend it.

The one thing that anoys me the most is waiting for food to be served after my order! This did not happen there! You may have to wait to be seated, once you are the food comes less than five minutes after the slips are filled out. As for soy sauce, you get a bucket at every table.
We love coming to Nijiya Sushi! They have a good assortment of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options to choose from. The service is always quick and the food tastes great!

The food was nasty and very poor quality. I do understand it’s an all you can eat but nothing tasted good. I don’t know why the calamari is recommended a lot it was so greasy.

Service: very attentive and friendly host. They were on top of it, taking away empty dishes, checking in if we needed anything, etc.
Parking: there’s metered parking
Ambiance: looks a little old, but everything was very clean.
Food: super worth the value, so if you’re looking for good bang for your buck, I would recommend this place. I saw a previous review where the girl said the food wasn’t fresh but for us, the sashimi (salmon, roe, mackerel, yellowtail) were allll super fresh. We were actually surprised by how good it was for all you can eat! There’s also a good amount of rolls and hot appetizer items. A lot of it is probably stuff you can get at the grocery store but for all you can eat, I’m not complaining! The steak appetizer was also juicy and tender.
Lastly, a lot of places typically try to stuff a lot of rice in the sushi rolls and nigiri, but this place didn’t do that, which was great.
Net net, great place for its value. We’ll be back!

Had a bill of $155, tipped $20, and waitress made a snarky comment about how we didn't even tip 15% (we were $3 off 15% btw). We were literally out of cash, and that interaction made me wish we didn't even tip them the $20. You shouldn't feel pressured to tip -- it all depends on the quality of service (which was meh). This was my first impression of the restaurant too which was really upsetting, but I guess other sushi restaurants can have my money; not this one.

The sushi is sooooo good and a good price! I like to go during lunch (AYCE) because the price feels like more bang for your buck. The staff is attentive which helps our orders go in fast. My fav AYCE place!

I saw many people on social media recommending Nijiya Buffet in Medford. The name sounds Japanese, so I thought it was an authentic Japanese place. But when I walked in, I realized it’s actually run by Chinese owners (nothing against that!). The vibe, as you can see in photos 2–4, feels just like one of those low-cost family chain restaurants back in Asia. The food was… quite something (photos 6–9). The pork cutlet and takoyaki tasted obviously pre-made, the miso soup had that instant-powder flavor, and the yaki udon was bland with water pooling at the bottom. The sushi didn’t taste fresh at all, and the ice cream was the exact same flavor as the cheapest bulk one from Costco. From the very first bite, I could really feel how much effort the restaurant put into “cost control.”
The service was unique too. Servers were constantly rushing around — plates dropped a few times, and pickled ginger kept falling on the floor. I was honestly worried someone might slip. Maybe that’s part of their “authentic dining atmosphere” experience (just my personal opinion).
The biggest surprise, though, was the menu trick (photo 5). Every sushi roll has a cute little “6pts” or “8pts” label, but hidden among those tiny lines is one nearly invisible note: “Leftover will be charged regular menu price.” 💅💅💅
I have to admit — the design is clever. The key information isn’t placed in a noticeable spot, yet it’s artfully buried in the text. Such “attention to detail” truly shows how thoughtful the restaurant is. Shouldn’t that kind of important info be highlighted instead? Individually, the regular menu prices don’t seem high, but add them up and it’s definitely not a small amount. I honestly admire this level of creativity — maybe they can teach me how to play word games like this? (personal opinion only, not targeting anyone)
The tip options were equally well thought out — the system only offers four choices, starting from 16% and going up to almost 50%. I respect tipping culture and understand service is hard work, but it’s clear this restaurant really knows how to make “choice” work in their favor.
After the meal, I had a stomachache, and my friend said she didn’t feel well either. Maybe it’s just coincidence… or part of the experience (again, just personal opinion).
This post isn’t meant to attack or discourage anyone. It’s simply a genuine dining experience. Just a reminder: before you try new places, take a closer look at the fine print — sometimes a restaurant’s good intentions are hidden very, very deep. 🥹💕
