Once upon a time, I was a customer, loyal for many, many years (originally because of Mark Bittman, who partnered with PC). The service kept getting worse and worse, year after year, always seeming to cancel the foods I liked best, and then finally one day in 2025, I forgot to cancel ONE week, and got caught with a $95 dollar order of all food I hated and will be forced to throw away (because no sane person will want this crap). I, of course, cancelled immediately and will never go back to this powdery-mushroom poison hellscape. The end.
I really wanted to love Purple Carrot, but the experience kept falling flat for me. The meals feel repetitive, heavy on carbs and sodium, and surprisingly low in protein. Some dishes look great on paper, yet end up demanding way more time and effort than advertised. The pumpkin gnocchi is a perfect example, the recipe said about 50 minutes for 4 ppl, and mine dragged on for almost 90 minutes, and I am not exactly slow in the kitchen.
Another tricky part is the automatic shipments. If you forget to update your box, you might end up with the burger patties that taste strangely off or that same pumpkin gnocchi that turns into an evening long commitment.
There are a few bright spots now and then, but overall the service feels more frustrating than supportive.
I’m loving this delivery service. It’s all vegan. It’s easy and it’s marked with all the ingredients.
We have been getting PC meals for the last 4-5 years. Every dish is carefully thought of and the different ingredients come together beautifully. The menu changes regularly so we do look forward to the dishes. Initially, we received the whole booklet so we had access to all other recipes too. Now, we get individual recipe cards just for the dish you ordered! 😅
Sometimes, the 4 servings are enough for 4-6 people and at other times it is only enough for 2-3 people. The greens wilt easily so you have to cook within first 2-3 days of receiving the box.
Overall, it is a great meal kit service for vegan meals.
I love the variety and the unique recipes. I've loved most everything I've made.
I was so excited to try these vegan pre made meals to facilitate everyday life, but I was overtly disappointed and cancelled after two weeks. The lack of flavor in every meal is striking. The meals taste like nothing and are filled with carbs and so little veggies or protein. Frozen food from the grocery store 100% tastes better and is more satisfying than this.
First time order delayed. No notification. Upon chatting with Alexis I was told „our boxes are subject to be delayed“. No offer to make it right even after I asked for some kind of good will. Oh well…
We have loved Purple Carrot so far, especially the meal kits. Delicious, cruelty free and easy.
These meals are great, amazing recipes with great flavors! I still feel like I get to cook each night with the kits but they are super easy for a busy family. Saves us money and makes it so easy to eat plant based mostly!
I was thoroughly disappointed with Purple Carrot. The shiitake tofu dish had a repulsive smell, and most of the meals were nowhere close to what was advertised. The dishes were loaded with carbs—mostly pasta or rice—with minimal amounts of the other ingredients. On top of that, the flavors were incredibly bland. This experience felt like a waste of both time and money. I wouldn’t recommend this service to anyone looking for quality or balanced vegan meals.

They have both diy meals and ready made meals ... Overall, the concept is great, plant based meals without worrying about whether animal based products are in the sauce etc. but.... Most of the meals (ready made) lack flavor.... And they have way too much grains and/or empty calories. Just because we want plant based meals doesn't mean that we want half the plate to be filled with quinoa, or even worse, white rice! Please be respectful of the healthy and clean eating, and do not fill it up with high carb options in your meals... It's not worth maximizing your profit in the short term when you lose your customers in a few weeks...
We have been using various meal plans for several years and this is by far the best we have tried. We are not vegan, but try to eat less meat and these meals hit the spot. The flavor combinations are original and so delicious. The produce is very fresh. Whereas other meal plans provide pre-chopped vegetables that get old quickly, the produce that comes in these boxes is very fresh. Having previously lived in California, we have a high bar for fresh produce, and this company definitely hits it. You do your own vegetable chopping prep for the most part but the trade-off is well worth it. The portions are also decent size and any leftovers get gobbled up for lunch the next day. My husband eats gluten free and we typically have plenty of options. I am so delighted with each of these meals and I look forward to picking out new meals every week.
This was more expensive than anticipated and disappointing. My meals were bland and sauces were pasty.soooo starchy. I ordered one week and cancelled.alot of prep for very little result.cancelled.
The recipes are unique and delicious! The quality of the ingredients is often better than what I get from the store. I like being able to get the occasional gourmet vegan goodie from the plantry. The time and mental energy I save, along with the quality of the ingredients and creativity of the meals, plus the decreased food waste, makes this worth it for me.
(I do meal kits, 3x meals for 2 people, 1 - 2x per month)
Creative recipes, fresh ingredients. Love the ready made meals, meals for preparation, as well as the grocery store items! Helps me to cook more at home and eat healthier when I don’t make it to the grocery store- everything arrives at your front door! ????
