I fell in love with the little whoopie pies that Chococoa specializes in 16 years ago when they opened. They are the perfect size! We were delighted to offer them as dessert at our wedding - a classic New England treat, but elevated - dense chocolaty cake with buttercream filling. The owners care about their customers, employees, service and products. Beyond the whoopie, baked offerings and drinks vary seasonally and always provide a twist on something classic - like their new gingerbread with salted caramel whipped cream. A great stop for a pick me up while in the Tannery, and there's always something you will want to bring home.

They offer a wide variety of whoopie pies, and they're on the smaller side which makes it easier to try more flavors! I got salted caramel, espresso, and coconut cream - they were all delicious in their own ways! I can't wait to go back and try more!!!

Look I know rent in NBPT is high, but the prices really are outrageous for something gone in two bites

A great place in the heart of NBPT. My iced mocha was expertly crafted and delicious. There were many gluten free options for my wife. The croissant I ate was made in France! Not the freshest I've had, but still tasty. The whoopie pies are absolutely addicting! I've included several photos of the place to help you get an idea of what to expect. The free parking lot was a bonus for the area.

This was my first time visiting this establishment. The atmosphere was cozy and nice. The service was from behind the counter was decent but not outstanding. It was a slow rainy day, and only 5 customers were there as a group. I ordered a lemon poppyseed muffin, which was a little under baked, but had great flavor. A blueberry muffin, which was terrible! It looked good, but I was expecting real blueberries in it, and that pop you get from them bursting in your mouth when you bite into them! Instead I got tiny blueberries, the size of a dried split pea! They had to be out of a can, like you get in Betty Crocker blueberry muffin mixes! I expected better than this especially for the price I paid! Also, they didn’t have much flavor to them, to make them stand out from the crowd, or make them special! I would pass on those, you can get better ones elsewhere! I also ordered a mini lemon cream Whoopie pie, now that was outstanding! The flavor was fantastic! The ratio of cake and cream was right on track, it was out of this world enjoyable! I would order this again! It was the Best item I purchased on my visit. Oh, I was also given a bag with a hole in it for my items, and they were all thrown in together. I would have put them in a plastic container or box separating them from each other, or at least the whoopie separate from the muffins. It’s the little things of appearances, that make a difference. Overall I rate this place a 3 maybe a 4 if you put in real blueberries and flavor enhancement in that blueberry muffin of yours. I will come back and try something new the next time I’m in town. Kudos for the whoopie though!

My girlfriend and I came to Newburyport from boston for her birthday day trip. We ended up at Chococoa because it looked like the most promising pastry shop in the area and we were right! Amazing atmosphere and unique seating. Great location alongside the bookstore and children’s store. And the food was delicious. We 4 whoopie pies to try (red velvet, some kind of lemony one, a maple one, and an OG). They were all delicious but I think the red velvet and lemon shone for me. We also got a chocolate croissant and cinnamon roll and our server offered to warm them up: right choice, delicious! The cinnamon roll was so good and has that glaze that’s almost lemon like. The croissants dough is apparently flown in frozen from France and then baked in shop everyday. Amazing, fair prices for the quality. Our server was very kind. I would come back for sure!

I was so excited to come here. It was extremely busy but the counter girls were very nice. However my coffee was wrong ( I ordered a flavored coffee and I was missing a couple whoopie pies. I received a straight iced coffee which for me was extremely bitter perhaps flavored would be better. The whoopie pies were mostly good but one was a little dried out.

I love Chococoa's coffee and pastries, but I wanted to take a chance to highlight their whoopie pies. My husband and I had them as favors at our post-wedding brunch (at Allagash in Portland, Maine). Ordering and pick-up was so easy and they coordinated the ribbon color, and gave us signs for the display. Everyone raved about them at the brunch (notable as we also had Bite Into Maine, Tandem Bakery, and Rose Foods (if you know Portland, this is big)). Our gluten free guests especially, raved about how moist they were and scrambled to take the extras home with them!
