A fun experience for a special occasion. The cost to reserve the lighthouse is a bit hefty at $350 for 1 couple, $700 for 2 couples, but it goes to The Lighthouse Preservation Society. Dinner is not included in that cost.We had such a great time! It was four of us celebrating a birthday. Pam assisted us as our sever for the evening and she was incredible. She was so sweet and attentive throughout the entire evening. She even called me the day of to go over everything. We ordered from Mission Oak Grill. You select your restaurant when booking the reservation and place your order at the table with your sever as you would at a regular restaurant. The BYOB is great and the lighthouse will supply wine or champagne glasses.Book in advance! We booked a few months ahead of time and many dates (especially weekends) were already taken. We enjoyed going at dinner time and getting to see the sunset! The staircase up and down isn’t bad for an able bodied person. There’s a very small ladder at the very end with just a few steps.

Highly recommend this once in a lifetime, private dining experience. My husband surprised me and it was just perfect from start to finish. At 6pm we met our lovely server and then climbed the steep stairs & ladder, through the hatch, to the top of lighthouse. The table was set with flowers & candles, soft music playing — very private, very sweet. It was a gorgeous evening so we crawled outside through the hatch door and enjoyed the spectacular river & city views before dinner. We spent the next 3 hours enjoying our meal from Mission Oak, watching the sunset, viewing the nighttime city lights and listening to our playlist. It was all ours. Magic. We’ll never forget it. **Some tips: I wouldn’t count on a last minute reservation, my husband booked months in advance; choose your dates wisely b/c this is best as a fair weather experience; snag a dinner reservation, not lunch, in order to experience amazing sunset views; skip the high heels b/c you need to climb stairs and a ladder; it’s BYOB, but water is provided; there’s no bathroom up top, plan accordingly; this is truly best for couples, very comfy for 2, but probably too tight for 3 or 4 people; it’s very pricey — my husband actually said “don’t ask” and didn’t tell me how much, but he said the proceeds go towards lighthouse preservation.
Is feels good to lighthouses
Since it became privately owned, the Newburyport Harbor Rear Range Light was renamed Newburyport Lighthouse. No trip to Newburyport is complete with a visit to this and the two other lighthouses in the area. Its location, shape, and brick construction make it a curiosity. It is one of Newburyport’s landmarks. The fact that it’s open to the public for hire for breakfast, lunch, or dinner makes it quite special. Diners get panoramic views room the dining room which is at the top in the lantern room. I rate the Newburyport Lighthouse at 5.0 and can recommend a visit. The reason for the delay in submitting this review was due to a months-long loss of my ability to post photos with my reviews. If you found this review useful, please click HELPFUL.
It's a specialty restaurant up in a lighthouse. It's an adventure. Lots of stairs but very easy to get up. Absolutely beautiful view from the top and the food was excellent.
My now fiancé took me to the lighthouse to propose. It was the most romantic perfect proposal that I could ever dream of. He booked a dinner session (~5:00 pm-10:30 pm) for a Sunday in May. He had his friend arrive at 5 to set up the decorations (flowers, candles, signs) and our private hostess Pam let her up. We arrived at 6 pm and once we got upstairs, he handed his phone to Pam to record his proposal. After the proposal, we went outside on the balcony where Pam took sunset pictures of us with my ring. We then decided to order from Modern Oak Grill which was absolutely delicious. Pam was able to time out our meal so each course was ~ 20 min apart. She also had drinks in ice staying cold for us. There was also a stereo system that allowed bluetooth capacity so we were able to pair my phone and I could play a spotify playlist. Overall the location was perfect and I could not have asked for anything better. We will definitely be coming back for future anniversaries!Just something to consider:- There are many stairs and a ladder so maybe steer away from heels or long dresses (thankfully I was prewarned to not wear them haha), and if you are afraid of heights, this might not be the best place.- If you want to go out on the balcony you have to crawl through a short door so be warned- If you are tall watch your head! My fiancé is 6'3 and he hit his head a couple times on the chandelier.- there is no bathroom, we used the restaurant next door but by the time we left the lighthouse around 9:30 pm, the restaurant had closed.

We were driving through Newburyport and wanted lunch with a nice view. I called what I thought was a restaurant and in fact it was the light house preservation society. THEY RAISE MONEY FOR LIGHTHOUSE PRESEVATION. I asked if there would be a table available for four and the gentleman said yes. So we met Pam a very generous, kind, warm hearted women who loves this lighthouse. She took care of us for the next 4 hours. We walk up the lighthouses 55 steps and the up a 6 foot tall ladder to get into the top of the lighthouse.. We had an extremely excellent lunch. The plated Haddock from The Starboard Galley was great. We stayed for four hours eating our clam chowder then the Haddock and the dessert. With each course Pam emerged from the floor of the lighthouse with more food and stories. My 96yo mother Bette was able to get up and down and loved every minute of it. THIS WAS AN EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME. ENJOY
This place was so beautiful! The food was amazing, the log books were so entertaining to read! Such an amazing experience, you can even go out on the balcony. The service was amazing. All around 5 star experience
This is a fantastic idea for a romantic experience. Highly suggest only one couple, though, as there's not much room for more than 3 people. Anyway, my experience was great & you can order from 1 of 3 local restaurants. Book in advance!

Cute, charming lighthouse.
This is not a real light house. There is a janky jailhouse watchtower looking thing that apparently has a restaurant at the top the size of a Subaru. And then there is a toy lighthouse hidden behind a fence and obstructed of view which is barely taller than Tacko Fall. I drove 25 minutes for this.
Beautiful lighthouse and a great setting for a wonderful evening. Can’t wait to come back!
We received a gift certificate for dinner in the Lighthouse as a wedding gift last summer. We chose to book the Lighthouse for our one year anniversary. From our first contact with Jay to the end of the night of our dinner, things were great! Darya our waitress was fabulous as she served our incredible dinner from Loretta in Newburyport. The weather out of anyone's control was perfection. This is a great special occasion experience!
What a wonderful and fun dining experience. We were excited to have the opportunity to book the evening reservation for a beautiful sunset. The restaurant we selected was fantastic...the Mission Oak really did a fantastic job of food prep for delivery a few blocks away. Our waitress Darya was outstanding and very talented for climbing all of those small steps with food! Definitely plan appropriately for shoe wear and clothing...the ladder at the top is a bit logistical.
