Starboard Galley Restaurant

Classic traditional seafood restaurant. Good food but no frills. Nice deck and seating indoors with view of water/rail trail.

Another absolutely delicious meal here. The pan seared haddock is amazing! The steamers are clean, fresh, and delicious. Keep up the great work!

I have been to the Starboard Galley several times over the years, most recently in May 2026, and it continues to be one of our favorite places to meet friends when they come to the Newburyport area.

The location near the waterfront is great, the staff are always friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. Parking can be challenging during busy summer evenings, but that is often the case in Newburyport. During our most recent visit, despite the rain, parking was easy and we were seated promptly.

I usually order the broiled haddock with house-made crumbs, mashed potatoes, and a salad. One thing I have noticed over multiple visits is that the haddock preparation can vary. On some visits, the fish has been cleaned perfectly and the meal was excellent. On a couple of occasions, including my most recent visit, there was skin and dark membrane left on the underside of the fillet. I personally do not care for the taste or texture of that portion of the fish and prefer it removed before serving. Since I have also had the same meal prepared perfectly on other visits, I believe this is more of a consistency issue than a quality issue.

That said, the overall quality of the food has consistently been good, the prices remain reasonable for a waterfront seafood restaurant, and the service has always been excellent. We have enjoyed many meals here with friends over the years and will certainly be back again.

If you are looking for a casual seafood restaurant with friendly service, reasonable prices, generous portions, and a relaxed Newburyport atmosphere, the Starboard Galley is well worth a visit.

We were there just recently on a Tuesday evening...It was quite quaint.
Seafood was fresh, delicious a bit pricey but not to bad, market price.
There were 3 of us for dinner and they had no problem with 2 of us splitting a meal, which was nice since some things don't make good leftovers....I was quite amused at the gentleman setting up in the back room for a podcast, it wasn't an interruption, but a pleasant encounter if you will with one of them...
They were doing a podcast on Aliens.

Wonderful restaurant in Newburyport! Great atmosphere. Fun locals. Great food. Nice drinks. Did I mention the food?? They have a nice bar. Great staff. Nice outdoor space. Really a wonderful restaurant to be at. If you are in the area and want a great established place for a meal. I highly suggest going here.

I grew up coming here it has always been my go to when i visit newburyport. My last visit my prime rib on special was extremely overcooked and so was my husbands seafood, the fries also changed which i wasnt expecting but not a huge deal. Service was slow and it just wasnt upto its usual par, very sad to see this place go down hill as its always been a family favorite.

We made a stop here for lunch on our way through after visiting a few spots in Newburyport. We had the fish and chips, the fish sandwich deluxe, and the firecracker chicken tenders. Dominic was a wonderful server and very attentive to our table. The food was delicious and came out relatively quick! Loved the tartar sauce. We were happy to find this spot during our travels!

Nikki did a great job accommodating. Very witty with excellent sense of humor. Food was very good but baked potato was likely reheated which dried it up. Good wines and phenomenal views. Great atmosphere.
