Been eating here for 30 plus years, it's one of the resturants that's at the heart of the lake. Always great food, great service and they've never overcharged on food no matter what.

Was not impressed at all with the way the older man behind the counter wasn’t exactly the friendliest guy or the fact that there were flies around the open containers of hots and onions .
I got an Italian and it was small and had little meat in it . A day later I was sick for two days . If you want good Italian cold cuts for subs go to Mario’s in Lexington , they’re bigger and have much better customer service !

Meatball sub was tasteless. No seasoning, no texture probably frozen/artificial, sauce tasted like water. Very disappointing and non authentic

Fresh bread.
Fresh salsa.
Excellent cuts on meats.
Reasonably priced $10 for a sub with a soda.

Hidden gym. Absolutely delicious and seating here.

The sandwich was good but it was the slowest and grumpiest customer service I have experienced in quite some time. Not worth going back.

Simple, affordable, no-nonsense, delicious food.I feel I could happily eat the meatballs here everyday for the rest of my life. Just like mother makes, if not better (between you and me).

There was a version of the Lake that had a much different flavor 30 years ago. It was an Italian enclave, with a history that is very much different than the rest of Newton. Nonantum, or "The Lake," was the village with the oldest synagogue. It was right down the street from a Catholic church that, in my opinion, has an interior that has made me cry over the sheer artistic splendor of it.Tradition still plays a large part in this changing neighborhood, and it is finely displayed in this small sub shop on Watertown St. Like the old days, food prices were lower and food portions were a bit larger, and Guiseppe's does not try and overwhelm the customer with grandiose decor or expensive decorations, they are here to make you a sandwich or a salad. My honest recommendation is to go to Guiseppe's, and learn a little about the duality of this wonderful neighborhood. Sample the simpler part of the Lake and remember to leave a nice cash tip, because you're getting a lot of value out of the hard work of the owners!

My first time here, I ate my sub at the counter and a man spontaneously started talking to me about what life was like in this area back in the 80's. I feel like that's not something you see a lot anymore and it was very welcome. The sub itself was fantastic, and extremely generously sized, especially for only $8.75. I tip generously because it is deserved. An Italian sub made by an Italian man in the most Italian part of town of an already Italian city? The next time I want a sandwich, I'm coming here.
