The food was amazing! We walked around all day and this was perfect. We suggest the vegetable lo mein and the vegetable curry!
I ordered a veggie stirfry and got steamed broccoli with absolutely nothing on it but bits of garlic. Very disappointed do not order the vegetable stirfry. It is not stirfry at all.
I lived in Taiwan for several years and this place has super authentic Taiwanese street food and other typical dishes. A lot of this is hard to find in restaurants in the US, and I was so excited by the menu here! There were lots of vegetarian options, and everything was delicious and well presented. The server was very helpful and friendly. I wish I lived a lot closer than 2 hours away so I could go all the time!
Service was great. We only ordered one dish and it was mediocre…
Tried T. Roots for a bird to eat today. Ordered the hot and sour soup, which was HUGE! Fill bowl of super heated soup, took forever to cook down, but actual spice was not very spicy, but had good taste. The ingredients were very different from regular Chinese restaurant hot and sour. Wife had udon veggie noodles, which was a smaller portion, certainly compared to the soup. We also had soup dumplings, which were 'okay, but made elsewhere and bought, nit prepared on-site. Overall was good.
I would give a 5 out of 5 but the past 2 times I have gone there, the service was not friendly. 1 of them was watching and hovering over us the last hour of closing. We left 20 minutes before because it was uncomfortable but the food is delicious.
We were in Northampton on graduation weekend, and had difficulty getting into good restaurants, so had to settle for this one, upon recommendation from our daughter's non-Asian professor. No trouble getting seated. One puts down order at the downstairs counter, pays for it, and waits at one's table. Service was definitely fast and efficient. We were a party of 4 - 2 herbivores and 2 carnivores. The rice paper vegetable roll was the best tasting out of all the dishes we ordered. Scallion pancake with vegetable wrap was innovative but a bit dry. Spicy Tofu salad was very salty, and the vegetable tofu curry was quite bland. Report about the beef noodle and shrimp fried rice was also just adequate. I guess we were just happy that we didn't go hungry that night :-).
I recently had my first experience trying Taiwanese food, and it was absolutely amazing! I decided to go with the beef stewed noodle soup, which was rich and flavorful. The broth was perfectly seasoned, and the noodles had just the right texture, making it a comforting dish that I couldn't get enough of. To compliment my meal, I ordered a refreshing passion fruit green tea with boba.
I was so impressed with the food and overall experience that I couldn't resist coming back for a second visit to indulge in more delicious dishes. I'm definitely looking forward to exploring more Taiwanese dishes in the future!

We arrived at 815p and they said they were only doing take out (they didn’t close until 9p). Service definitely lacks warmth the many times I’ve been there. Mei fun and vegetable fried rice were lacking flavor, the rest was good.
Why this place isn’t pumping on a Saturday night near Smith College is beyond me.

The food was incredible, the host however was a little strange and unwelcoming. Definitely affected the atmosphere.
Wheelchair accessibility: Downstairs is not wheelchair accessible and you have to go up a 2" step to get in the door.

The door was locked at arrive at 2:50 pm & noted it would be open at 3 pm. The food are tasty however I felt being watched. The server( or owner) was not in the mood for reopen the restaurant at 3 pm. Because he has a firm & cold voice.

The chef is an amazing cook who knows and loves the cuisine he serves to each table! I was disappointed with options in Noho for sit down service, so we were lucky to snag a table. While the atmosphere isn't overly creative, it is simple and bright, which further allows the food to shine. We ordered jasmine green tea with and without sweetener, both were delicious and piping hot. The scallion pancakes were fantastic, not overly greasy, and dusted with a delicious sweet sour spice mix. The noodle soup was warm and slippery, congee wet and flavorful, and the oyster pancake was crispy and fluffy. The textures and flavors didn't disappoint and I'd happily return for another meal. The menu is simple and without detailed descriptions, but once you know the dish, say congee, it's easy to make choices from options offered. My MIL struggled with lack of familiarity with many of the dishes, but happily tried something new when given an explanation. She raved about her tea and immediately went to the store to find a dupe, it wasn't comparable to the beverage served in house

T. Roots is a Taiwanese restaurant in the heart of Northampton, with a very minimalistic interior but modern design.
The food is delicious, the noodle soups and appetizers are all really good and come in good portions for the price. I ate the spicy beef dry noodle and it was excellent, not too spicy but still packed a bit of a kick for people. The appetizers I highly recommend, as they pair well with the dishes.
However, I had a bit of a difficult time with the service here. We came as a Party of 5, but they only had a booth for 4 people, which could fit 5. However, the server refused to let us sit at the table as a party of 5, even though there were others there doing what we were doing. Eventually they relented and let us sit down, but gave us a bit of attitude throughout the night. Overall this didn't ruin the experience, but was a bit eyebrow-raising to me.
Overall its a good place to go eat though, and highly recommend it.
