I became familiar with Heirloom Fire when they catered my sister and brother-in-law's wedding. It was a truly phenomenal dining experience and so cool to see how they work. They are incredibly efficient and we were blown away by the presentation, how friendly everyone was and the creativity. Everyone absolutely loved the food and they were great and easy to work with.

In the spring, I attended Spring Awakening - one of their curated dining experiences. It was a night I will never forget. Chef James Gop is an absolute wealth of knowledge and true artist. The level of creativity and attention to detail was mind-blowing: the flavor profiles, presentation and overall immersive dining experience was unlike anything else. Other than being an incredibly unique way to experience food and dining, one thing Heirloom Fire does well is bring people together. It was such a blast! We were all saying that because we were having the dining experience together in such a new and unique way that it did what meals are supposed to do, which is be a point of connection. We all left with friends and new numbers afterwards. I truly cannot wait for the next event and would highly recommend using them for your wedding and attending one of their events.

Birds sing, fish swim, angels fly… you nourish souls.

I am trying to find adequate words to describe - what can only be called a feast for the soul and the senses .

From the scented towel upon arrival to the tulip nectar cocktail , the impossibly delicious celeriac and the blackened earth under tiny onions , the hand churned butter with bee pollen on chewy sourdough dripping with honey to the chocolate dipped pine boughs tempting overhead ( and speaking of above - let’s include the twinkling clouds )- the experience was in a word , magical ( ok , and sumptuous …and filled with new friends …and the wines ! …and the evening was uplifting far beyond what words can convey and …I can’t wait to be back )

We are fortunate to find ourselves in a land of many chefs but James, please know you are truly a special cook among them .

I had the pleasure of experiencing Heirloom Fire's incredible catering, and I can't say enough about how amazing it was! Their dedication to fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients truly shines through in every bite. The flavors were outstanding, and you could tell the food was crafted with care and passion.

What really stood out was their unique “Dinner Theatre” approach — watching the team cook directly over a hardwood flame was both mesmerizing and impressive. It added such a special touch to the event, creating an unforgettable experience. The service was equally exceptional, with the staff being attentive, professional, and warm throughout the evening.

Whether you're planning an intimate gathering or a large celebration, Heirloom Fire brings something truly special to the table. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for remarkable food and memorable moments!

My husband and I cannot say enough good things about James, Kady and the entire Heirloom Fire team. Working with Heirloom Fire was the first decision we made to plan our wedding (we literally chose our date based on their availability), and we both agree that our food and the entire experience Heirloom Fire created was our absolute favorite part of the day (which says a lot...considering we got married at our home!).

Part of what makes the Berkshires such a magical place is passion and respect for incredible food, local farms and the intersection of all of this among beautiful surroundings. It was extremely important to us that this was deeply felt by all of our guests at our wedding weekend. I don't think I could trust any other human to bring this to life for our guests more beautifully than James and his team!

While most brides say they never eat at their wedding, that was simply not an option for me :). I still day dream about the unbelievable duck James made for my husband and I, and 6 months later, I still receive texts from guests about the food.

Aside from our wedding, one of the highlights of our year was our Tasting day with James and Kady. Every moment was a special memory! We can't wait to attend a ticketed meal in the future-- James, you can't get rid of us!

Went to a wedding with heirloom fire as the caterer. The appetizers were tasty and the main course was delicious, especially the duck breast. All the guests seemed impressed and it definitely had a wow factor.

Heirloom Fire is predicated on the current taste for barn weddings and such but brides and grooms beware - this is a gimmick of an outdoor cooking “experience” that produces inedible “natural” ingredients of
tasteless greens, foraged mushrooms and the board platters of fish, potatoes and meat. The dinner served to our guests was woefully undercooked (if cooked at all) with lamb that was inedible. It looked like a pile of animal intestines. See photo below.

The lamb served on the long board that presumably he was cooking for hours and was painfully rare - I had never seen anything served that way and if any food inspector were present would certainly close up James Gop’s operation pronto.

Presumably Heirloom Fire staff had been cooking the meat and fish for hours, as we did not get served till about 8:30 pm.  Not only was the service sloppy and disorganized but the “cool”, “hip” wooden boards had a pile of tasteless greens, mushrooms and potatoes served with what looked like the intestines of a lamb.  Personally I would trade in outdoor cooking “experience” and the servers in gimmicky outfits of suede and plaid for a traditional style tasty dinner and wait staff in everyday clothing.

Urging the wedding and event planners and brides and grooms to not fall for this so-called “experience” of wood fire outdoor cooking. There are other chefs that do it right.

What’s more I sensed that James Gop’s staff is woefully underpaid and unhappy. And to top it off Gop appears to have an outsized ego completely out of sorts for a talentless chef. More importantly, food inspectors should be out on alert here for what he is serving.

Thumbs down for this sham operation. Book at Gedney Farm or one of many fine catering operations in the Berkshires that do it right.

I worked with this company (based out of Massachusetts) on a pretty important wedding in Nashville, for Mac Davis’s son back in 2018 (or was it 2019?) Incredible experience! I bartended the wedding & I was blown away by their style and class, their professionalism, and their kindness. AMAZING!

The best part was watching them cook that’s it! The service was subpar and the food would have been better if they paid attention to detail when it was put on the plank and servedThey are way way way overrated!

We used Heirloom Fire for our wedding caterer and still haven't stopped talking about it! We had a large outdoor wedding at my childhood home and Heirloom was the perfect addition to the outdoor event. Heirloom not only provided delicious food from the hors d'eoeuvres to the family style dinner, but was also a conversation piece. It was such a unique interactive experience, we were so happy to share with family and friends. Beyond the delicious food, Heirloom handled the open bar, providing quantities for alcohol, as well as two delicious specialty cocktails. Everyone we worked with was amazingly kind, organized, patient, knowledgeable and passionate. It was sad to say goodbye to the team after working with them for over a year but can't wait to work with them in the future for an anniversary celebration!

Traveled 6.5 hours for the “Into the deep” Dinner. As a professional chef I would never leave a review, but. I took off the first weekend I have ever had in the last four years. This was the worst dinner/ event I have ever attended ever. If I could leave a no star review I would. Horrible execution as a whole. Cold and under cooked food. Doesn’t seem like a professional is running this company total loss of control over space and food. Almost an hour and a half between first and second course. The entire event was a bust. Spent a lot of money for a event that was hyped up to be one of the most special events that I have ever had the privilege to attend. A total let down. I hope you are better at weddings than you are private dinners. I hope you rectify this as the ideas and concepts you push to have are amazing. Just work on execution.

When I asked my now-husband how he envisioned the food for our wedding, his reply was "pig roast". So, I Googled "pig roast" and "wedding," and found Heirloom Fire, who are so far above and beyond a pig on a spit, I can hardly believe I was lucky enough that my search terms led me to them. We hired them for our rehearsal dinner instead of our wedding, in part so we could be more present and engaged with the experience. This crew is professional, eclectic, brilliant, personable, innovative--and the hardest working people in the industry. They not only provide elegant dinner theater and a culinary education, they serve meals that are a delight to taste and to behold. From our tasting in the Berkshires to the late-night hugs in my mother's back yard, we were awed by Heirloom Fire's ability to turn their dreams, and ours, into a delightful and constantly surprising reality. When I mentioned my love of edible hay, James created for our dinner a hay milk punch. When we wanted a drinks list rather than a full open bar, he provided the bar support. When my mother imported a wheel of aged asiago cheese from Italy, he made it a seamless part of the experience. When my in-laws suddenly could not attend, he incorporated their foraged foods with his, in honor of them. With Heirloom Fire, your wishes become James' command (complete with a smile), and you get the feeling that anything you imagine is possible. His goal is to tell the story of your location, the story of your reason for gathering, through the most beautiful meal you may ever eat, and it's a resounding success. We hired a lot of great vendors to make our wedding weekend the highlight of our lives thus far, but Heirloom Fire were the only ones who delivered absolute perfection from start to finish, from managing my financial concerns to indulging my appetite for more oysters. Our only regret is that every meal we'll ever eat from now on will pale in comparison to this, and any other evening we design will be but a shimmer of an event with Heirloom Fire. If you want something unique, elegant, special, and dream-like with a crew of dedicated, assiduous, industrious, joyful, delightful, people and a world-class, local, sustainable, innovative culinary experience executed to perfection, Heirloom Fire is for you.
