Umi of Japan offers a casual dining experience with a variety of Japanese dishes. The atmosphere is okay, a bit dark, but the food makes up for it. The vegetarian options like Maki sushi, agedashi tofu, and stir fry vegetable udon noodles were all very good. The service can be hit or miss, with some slow moments but the chefs are engaging and entertaining. Despite some issues with seating and billing, the overall dining experience was satisfactory. The hibachi dishes are a highlight, with perfectly cooked sirloin and tasty fried rice. The restaurant seems popular, even in a quiet mall setting. While it may not be a top dining destination, it is a decent choice for a hibachi meal north of Boston.
