For our family, "Johnny's Bar & Grille" in South Hadley is like the TV show, "Cheers." Because we are regulars, all the waitstaff not only knows our names, but they go out of the way to make us feel like we are truly part of a family--the good side of the family :) They hold the front door open for my elderly (90's) mom and dad and celebrate every birthday lunch with us by bringing flowers to the table, complimentary desserts and sometimes they even get together and sing. The food is consistently outstanding and reasonably priced. The service is among the best I've seen. Above all, the atmosphere is super positive. All the waitstaff seem happy and professional and warm. Again, it's a very family friendly place that our family will return to week after week.

Went to have a drink with a friend and once my friend ordered, the waitress never came back. I had to flag down a different server about 15 or 20 minutes later to ask if I could order. When I finally ordered, it took quite a while to get my drink but it was tasty. However it was loud and so we decided to settle up and leave. I paid with a card and left my waitress a $2 on a $10 drink, but she obviously didn't think that was enough because when my payment came through my bank, I saw she added an extra dollar for herself. NOT COOL...

We've been coming here for about a year. It seems the quality of the food has decreased over this time. I was there tonight for dinner and the food was really just OK. The Caesar salad was simply some chopped lettuce with shaved parm and croutons with the dressing on the side (in a plastic cup). The boneless wings were dry. The time it took from ordering the food to table was no more than 10 minutes. That says a whole lot.
Service was great, but doesn't compensate for the food.

My first experience there was good. The food came out quickly, hot, and was tasty. The servers are attentive and polite as well. Some negatives (for me) is the tight seating a loud atmosphere. It was very difficult to have a conversation. The other issue I had was the choice of entrees. It seems like they like to serve items that are hot or spicy. You have to be careful if you're someone who doesn't prefer these types of appetizers/entrees. That said, there is a lot to choose from. If you get the fish and chips, you won't be disappointed with the portion size or quality of fish/prep. Though, you won't have room for anything else if you clean your plate! I don't typically eat fried food, but I'm glad I tried it. The fries were perfect. Crunchy outside, semi-soft inside. I never take fries home in a box. I did this time! I'd go back if I was looking for fish and chips. But, the fact that there's a lot of hot and spicy on the menu, it doesn't leave me a lot of choices. In summary, good food, nice staff, and lots of menu options (especially if you like hotter/spicier foods). The only drawback IMHO is tight seating, menu leans hot, and loud atmosphere. I think outdoor seating (dependent on weather) would be preferable if you're looking to have conversation with your dinner. Oh, and according to someone I went to dinner with who used the facilities... they are impeccably clean! That's always a plus, lol.

It was the first time at the tavern. When we were seated about 5:30PM, the place was a madhouse with loud children carrying on. The noise continued throughout the two hours were were there. The onion soup was great, however, it quickly went downhill from there. I ordered the ruben. It was heavily greasy and the bread as somewhat burnt. I waited almost an hour for the server to come to the table and ask how things were going. I wanted to tell her about the sandwich disaster and refill my drink. I had to get another server to tell our server to come to the table. She finally arrived. I told her about the ruben. She asked if I wanted something else. It was late and the others in our party had eaten by then. She never refilled my drink. All in all it was a major disappointed. We will never return.

Parking: Parking in the rear. Limited street parking.

A friend and I stopped in for an early dinner, the wait staff were friendly and helpful and the menu had a lot of options to satisfy everyone in a group. They offer specials for dinner and they also serve pizza. The kids menu looked pretty good. Dinner was excellent for both of us and look forward to going again. The place had nice atmosphere and the tables and chairs were clean.

Parking: Huge free town parking lot right behind the place.

Kid-friendliness: Seemed like it's more for adults but they do have a kids menu. I know if I was a kid I'd like it but not sure if the really young will have any fun.

Wheelchair accessibility: You can park on the top side of the back parking lot and be very close. They have outdoor seating and the main door is ground level and easy to open.

The server Gabriel was okay in the begging. We ordered our drinks, appetizers, and main course and got those pretty quickly. However, once he took our order, he never checked up on us again. He would check up on all the other tables around us but skip over us. We finished eating around everything around 8:17, he didn’t come back to us until 8:29 to ask if I wanted a box. While he asked if I wanted a box he rudely tossed the check on the table without a care. At 8:38 he finally came back with a box and took the check. Overall, good food but bad experience for my first time there. He seemed to not really care about us and I even helped clean the table to kind of signal to other servers we were done and still no one really came over and asked if we were all set or anything…

We love Johnny's, the wife and I go for our date night, wait time is usually 10-30 minutes, has always been shorter than their given estimated wait. Food seems to have decreased in quality over past month for some reason. Usually great
