Real old world structure. The electric switch was installed by Thomas Edison. Go for the history, not the food.

I went here for someone special's birthday, and I was baffled by how long it took for us to get our food. It was like an hour. That is my only complaint, other than that the food was great, and the location was awesome.

Walkability: Many miles of walking trails throughout the property. They are easy-walk-not much up & down hill, but, still beautiful!
Most trails are lumpy with tree roots, so wear supportive shoes. I wouldn't take a residental-type wheel chair on the trails I walked, but an off-road one, with big tires would probably be fine.

Went for dinner last Saturday night and the food was terrible. The steak was ordered "rare" and it was over cooked. The waitress was disturbed to have to bring it back to the kitchen. The replacement steak was not much better. The green beans were canned green beans and the mashed potatoes were cold. My bill was $225.00 for 5 people and it was he worst food we ever had. Thank you for allowing me to express my opinion. You need to do better, improve the food and improve the service

Great drinks at the "oldest tavern " in America.

Food and drinks: Buffet food was good, nothing special. Our server was nice, but they only gave us 1, so with a group of about 40, she ran ragged. They put out 1 tray of each item, never even thought about putting another 1/2 tray out. Some folks left a bit unsatisfied.

We were excited to be back, and celebrate birthdays w family from out of town. Sadly we were disappointed. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. The cheese and crackers and bread basket was different than I had years before. And I was excited to get the Sunday dinner special “Turkey dinner” it was not hot when it came out. My family had the leg of lamb which was overdone and also cold. We also got dessert, I was excited about the apple pie and he ordered the Indian pudding. Again lack luster, not so tasty and overly molasses flavor. Sadly my out of town family felt the same. The dining room was empty when our food came out so I’m not sure why our food was cold. Not sure we will return. Too bad beautiful grounds and such history there.

Many a good time has been shared at the Wayside over the years, with the exceptional food and atmosphere. It has been the site of birthday celebrations, anniversaries and Mother’s Day dinners. After my father died, it was the place my Mother wanted to go when the family came together following the funeral.

I’m not sure if there has been a change in the management, but the service has really taken a turn for the worst.

Our server Bridgette, could not have made us feel more uncomfortable following initial introductions. Maybe it was because only one of us ordered a drink? Maybe they were understaffed that night?

I can overlook many things but having my steak knife thrown in front of me on the table with the arrival of my food and the brusque and negative energy she exuded in the way she interacted with me and my other family members who had come from out of state to visit the Wayside was very disappointing.

The cherry on the cake was being bounced around like a rag doll every time she came stomping by our table in the Old Kitchen—the historic floors have a natural give and take to them that normally doesn’t disturb one’s digestion when servers and customers pass by the table to serve other guests.

I would find it hard to believe she was not aware of how much she was jostling us.

Would be happy to share other details with management.
