This was a horrendous experience the service was terrible and the food was worse. Apparently the chef and bartender had quit earlier in the week but we were not advised of that until the meal was through. I have never had a worse meal on the Vineyard . They had to look up the recipe for our drinks ordered from the menu on line as he bar manager had removed them all from their computer. Half the entrees they were out of ingredient's and kept asking to substitute. I had heard bad things about the restaurant from locals but liked the location so went. What a Mistake!!!!!!!

I really wanted to like this restaurant. We were visiting Martha's Vineyard for the first time from Arizona. Most of our family is from Connecticut, so we thought this would be a great trip. We originally wanted to check out Port Hunter in Edgartown. They don't take reservations and when we arrived they told me they were not accepting any more names on the wait list. No restaurant in Edgartown would seat a party of seven at any kind of reasonable hour. As a result, we started calling restaurants in Vineyard Haven. Garde East said they could seat us at 8:15 which worked for us. We arrived a little early and were ask to wait in a nice courtyard seating area. As we waited, I noticed that the restaurant also seemed to be serving a yacht club next door. A few minutes later, a young woman appeared and said she would seat us. But instead of seating us in the restaurant, she took us up to the dining area of the yacht club. There was a significant difference between the dining room of the restaurant and the dining area of the yacht club. The restaurant was a white tablecloth dining room, warm and well lit. The yacht club was more like a pub. We were seated near the bar, in a poorly lit and chilly room wide open to the terrace outside. My wife and her mother were cold, despite being as far away from the door as they could get. In the interest of keeping the review to a reasonable length, I will say that the food was well prepared and flavorful. My halibut was tender and delicious. My wife enjoyed her seafood spaghetti and my uncle loved his pork dish. Everything was great food wise. The service was friendly but a little on the slow side as they were very busy. My only suggestion is that the restaurant should have asked if we were ok with the dining area switch. Frankly, we would have been happy to wait a little bit longer to have not been in a cold, dark place to have dinner. Dinner for seven with a couple of cocktails and wine was over $100 per person. For those prices, I expect a much better overall dining experience. Would we return? Perhaps...but I would have to consider other choices. Five star food but only a 3 star dining experience. That's why I am giving Garde East a 4 star rating.

Dinner was great. Brussel sprouts are phenomenal. Prices are high but that's true throughout the Vineyard in the summers.

This place was outstanding a year ago. So disappointed this evening. Stale bread, a crowed in seat when no one else was even dining in the other side. Nice staff but the menu was blah. On the ocean I want fish and only having one option one the menu is not acceptable. Halibut is a boring fish.No special entrees was a disappointment.. We love the view and location but will not be back until they bring back more fish.

Given this restaurant had quite the romantic ambiance, beautiful view from the deck and professional staff...the food was disappointing. My boyfriend ordered the halibut and I had ordered the dry aged ribeye, for the price, we were expecting a more flavorful meal; the food was incredibly bland, hardly any taste and it was upsetting as each of our cuts were cooked to perfection, along with a unique presentation that would make one think otherwise. Overall we ended up enjoying our cheese board more than our entree. As frequent travelers and restaurant connoisseur's, we were expecting more from an upscale restaurant on Martha's Vineyard.

We recently ate dinner at Garde East, we were very disappointed, the atmosphere was great as well as the view, however the main courses were lacking flavor, extremely salty, and they tried to hard to mix too many favors into one dish! When you plan a dinner out and one that is pricey it should be outstanding and it was far from it!

Lovely setting on the water; many tables are either outside or have a view of the harbor. The service was superb and friendly; our sommelier was very good as well. So why 3 stars? Food was only ok, particularly for that price point. Swordfish was universally panned as very dry with lack of taste. I had the chicken. People look at me funny when I order chicken at a high end restaurant, but anyone who recalls Hammersly's in Boston knows chicken can be amazing. This wasn't. Dry and somewhat tasteless, particularly at 34 dollars. I know they can do better in the kitchen and hopefully they will.

Outstanding. Probably one of my favorite restaurants ever! The food is delicious and inventive and the view is just gorgeous. My husband and I ate here in August 2018 and joked that the only thing missing was unicorns, because we saw a rainbow as we ate the most delectable things while being served by expert staff. Inventive cocktails, too!

We dined outside and the view was fantastic. Unfortunately it was downhill from there. Our martinis tasted watered down, the service was very slow and by the time our Halibut dinner came to the table, it was luke warm. For the price, there are better options on MV. Bob B

We had an outstanding meal tonight. Very relaxed. Beautiful table overlooking the harbor. We had the tuna tartare with an incredible avocado sauce. A++ fresh and flavorful Next we had the local muscles. They came in a huge bucket. Way more than we expected and they were delicious. Finally we shared the ribeye. It was off the chain good. Great place with great service. Go.
