Came here for a quick late dinner. The service was friendly and prompt, our food was tasty. Loved the chicken buns. The reason I am giving this place a three star review is because the portions were very small and the prices were expensive. I am not naive to dining out by any means and understand good food and service comes at a cost, however I did feel slightly disappointed.
I've been going to Rouge for years but really they have gone to the top of their game. The creative, ever changing menu is an absolute delight! There is always something that makes my stop not only interesting and informative but always delicious and served with such style and wit. I am so happy to have this little gem near my home in the Berkshires. Staff is always attentive and welcoming. Of course, I am always impressed with Jeremy's cocktails which are some of the finest I have ever had! It will always be my first stop to recommend for people coming to the Berkshires for the first time. You will be hooked after that...
I heard about Rouge for years and they usually don't take reservations unless its a party of six. So when they accepted reservation for 4 on a Saturday night that was a red flag. The waitress was out right rude and had no customer service skills. The menu was very small. There were no tapas and a small choice of 5 entrees. The 4 inch Turkey Pot Pie was shredded turkey with no sauce completely dry. It was over salted and bordering on inedible. The charcuterie plate for 18 dollars was a joke. It came with 3 pieces of Mortadella, 3 pieces of Prosciutto, some sliced salami, 4 cornichons, 4 pieces of toast and a dollop of Cherry marmalade. Cost them one dollar, totally unappetizing and poor presentation. My friend had the Broccoli salad and a vegetarian entree she ended up with Diarrhea all night. I did tell someone in the kitchen about the over salting, he didn't seem to care. Enough said.
The menu is seasonal and very small. Not much to choose from if you don't eat red meat. We liked the roasted beets and heirloom apple salad quite a bit, the halibut and corn fritters were a bit tasteless but it came with a good avocado mousse, and the duck was good. The sourdough bread was 2 small rolls for $4, that should have been complementary. Probably won't go again.
The food was generally good, nothing bad, but nothing that special either. Wife had the Duck Confit, and I had the Bistro Steak (can’t remember if we had dessert). Both plates were prepared well, and again, they were decent, but we wouldn’t consider them great (especially for the price they were charging). It seemed like they were trying a little too hard to be fancy (or innovative), but it didn’t really work for us. The staff was very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about their food. Would we recommend this place? We’re leaning on “no” only because the risk outweighs the cost.
Food was unique and great presentation.
Three of us visited Hancock Shaker Village and wanted to have a relaxed and interesting dinner before we headed home. We found Rouge on line and the menu looked interesting so we called to get a table. It was either a high-top at the bar or a table outside. That was all that was available early on a Wednesday evening? The place must be pretty good. We took outside, even though it was a cool evening. It was just right, they lit up a space heater near our table and we were perfectly comfortable (no insects as some other reviews mentioned, but it was early and a cool night). The menu is a bit confusing, so we asked and the waitress explained that most of it was small plates plus a few entrees. So, we ordered the corn soup, a couple sourdoughs, and 4 small plates. Everything was wonderful. Unusual food but prepared perfectly and simply delicious. We split one of each of the two desserts on the menu and, as expected, they were both fantastic. The service was prompt and attentive. I'm a soup guy and the corn soup was something that I will probably never forget. We will absolutely go out of our way to come here again. It was nice to sit outside, the street life of West Stockbridge is pretty calm! It's a lovely town and beautiful part of the country. We'll make reservations for inside sometime this winter and come back, it's worth a 90 minute drive to come here.
What a delightful meal. This was our anniversary meal and it did not disappoint. We ordered for pickup(Crazy Covid Times). Duck Confit, Watermelon feta salad, Scallop Toast, Bistro Steak, Halibut. Everything was delicious. I have already told many people about this gem. It's easy to get to off of 90 and the meal was so good. We'll likely be back, hopefully to enjoy in person.
When we are in the Berkshires at our second home, we tend to dine out 5 nights per week. We have been to all of the better restaurants numerous times, including Alta, Cafe Lucia, Bistro Zinc, Brava, etc. Lenox is "restaurant central ". I have been asked a number of times what I thought was the best. Interestingly, the best by far isn't even in Lenox. It's in W. Stockbridge, and its name is Rouge. Maggie, the owner, and Oliver the chef do an incredible job, in both food and service. If you know really good food when you taste it, you definitely will want to go to this restaurant.
We were very pleased to see how imaginative the menu was. Everything had a unique twist. For example, the "grilled Romano beans" were cooked with unique spices and served over a light smear of yogurt. This was fabulous. The heirloom tomato appetizer was equally good and the scallop toast wad wonderful. The Sea Bass was excellent and the coconut curry sauce was delicious. clafoutis was excellent. We ate outside late due to a play in Lennox. It was lovely until the bugs came out, but low and behold, the server came out with an all natural bug spray for us and a bug deterrent device that they set down on the ground near us. The whole evening was super.

Best steak ever margaritas right up there to. Very friendly staff , Jeremy great bartender.25th Anniversary dinner was awesome !!
Four of us shared an exceptional dinner at Rouge. As starters my wife and I ordered the Berkshire Mountain Bakery sourdough and Vermont butter and the pate de foie gras. We paired that with a glass of Sancerre and a glass of Prosecco. Rouge features a really long list of wines by the glass. We then enjoyed as our mains two steamed seabass fillets and the blueberry bread pudding with rhubarb ice cream. Yes, the bill adds up, but it’s worth every penny. Emma was our efficient and personable server. Parking is nearby.
Excellent food. Good service. Recommended.
I’m blown away by the food at Rouge. We got a recommendation to go here, not sure what to except being from NYC (best food in the world) but we loved everything we ate. The steamed chicken buns may have been the best dish I have ever had in my entire life! The bass was cooked to perfection. Drinks were delicious… the staff was so accommodating and attentive. We ate outside and felt perfectly safe. We met the owner, Maggie, who was gracious and lovely. What an incredible meal!! We can’t wait to come back. I’d drive from NY just for the day to have this food again
