They only have a small inside seating area, so don't count on being able to get a seat inside, but outside there is more seating, so if it's warm enough... Do save room for an ice cream, the servings are generous and the ice cream is good.

Kay’s is amazing. The staff are so kind and the ultimate multitaskers. They are taking orders, prepping sides, scooping ice cream, working with the busy kitchen staff and double checking each order. It’s amazing watching them work and they are always smiling. They definitely deserve a tip so take care of these hard working servers when you go in. The food is outstanding. There’s something for every budget, sometimes we just get a sandwich or a hot dog. Sometimes I do the whole belly clams which are so good. I must say their Cole slaw is my favorite. Their seasonal ice creams and specials always keep us coming back for more. They even helped me do my gender reveal to my husband and the girls had the best time helping me sneak that blue ice cream to the bottom and covered it with his favorite flavor so he couldn’t see any of the blue until he got to the bottom. They are amazing. I’m so happy they are open year round because I love their hot soups and my husband loves their pulled pork. They are both great options on a cold day. 5 stars for sure!!

PSA FOR ANYONE THAT GOES TO KAYS DAIRY BAR, they have a POS (Skytab) system that charges 17% gratuity and you have to opt out of it when using your card.
My husband came home with a receipt that read $49.22 however his bank account read $57.58.
When I called and asked they were friendly and polite but stated that it’s a “common problem” and the system automatically applies a 17% tip that customers have to opt out of.
Reading the review below and seeing someone else had the same issue I wonder how many times this has happened and clients don’t notice. Disappointing.

First time at Kay’s Dairy Bar and it was amazing! Enjoyed fried calamari, fried pickles, fried haddock and a cheeseburger plate for three of us. Portions were good, had no room for ice cream (next time!). Overall delicious and fresh food! The haddock was really, really good. Service was friendly and efficient. Ample outdoor seating, though road noise is distracting. We noticed many picnic tables behind the dairy bar (as we were leaving) that look nice for a quieter atmosphere. Will definitely be back! Happy to see they are open year round.

I've been going here since the 1960s as I grew up in South Gardner. It's got different owners, but the ice cream cones are still the same sizes up to ENORMOUS, lol. The food is very good and they are open year round instead of just the summer like it used to be. It can get a bit busy so I try to go at off times where less mistakes are made.
Our recent trip to Kay's we decided would be our last. The ice cream is extremely over priced and unfortunately not good. $19.65 for 2 people. We purchased a small cone with soft serve twist and chocolate jimmies. And a turtle boat. The turtle boat was nothing but a hot fudge sundae. Very disappointing at the cost of the boat...it didn't even include pecans, caramel etc...isn't that the point of a turtle?? On a side note...the music in the sitting area was extremely loud and obnoxious. Kay's is a hard pass! Plenty of good ice cream local at other locations.

I ordered the quart of lobster bisque. How disappointing 😞!! I got a quart of red slop that tastes like lobster with no lobster in it at all for $16.25!!! Never again. Your customers should be told it comes in a plastic bag and then thrown in a container... 🤬

A magnificent Lobster Roll shack in the middle of Massachusetts. I was shocked. Lobster meat was fresh, moist, tender and delicious for $40.00 Great value. Shaded out door picnic style tables and seating plus shaded car parking. Off Route 2 Westminster.
