It is a great place for any occasion but we always eat here for special parties too. The prices are extremely fair but the food is always great. There is something for everyone on the menu and they are happy to accommodate any special dietary needs. The ambiance is magical. My family has lived nearby for decades and decades. The Old Mill was a landmark even back when I was a child. I remember we would drive up the hill from Fitchburg and smell the incredible food cooking at The Mill. We ate there yesterday and I was reminded I needed to write the review after we had such a memorable moment, my mother and I. Thank you for everyone there who works so hard to make a special moment better.
We’ve been here many times before with great food and service. We came here with both our moms to celebrate their birthdays this past Friday night and the overall experience was terrible. The waitress was terrible, the food came out cold- 3 prime ribs, and the pasta dish I had had a HAIR in it. When the hair was found, they took my plate, no manager came to apologize or ask how to rectify the situation or offer my anything else to eat, she brought the check out and said it was taken off the bill. My meal only. 0/10 recommended this restaurant.
If New England mountains had a flagship restaurant this would probably be it. Just off scenic RT 2a. Delicious American cuisine. The hush puppies are so yummy! Take time to walk the grounds. Enjoy waterfalls, historic exterior, and of course the ducks and geese.
Parking: Parking is located next to the restaurant and across the street.

I did not think that the food reached the standard they expressed on their menu. My duck dinner , the duck was a bit dry, the chicken on the Cobb salad was dry and clam chowder a little thin for my liking. The burternut squash was more like butternut sugar. Their sweet rolls and and fritters were great. My husband said the chicken vegetable pie was great.

What an Ugly and RACIST establishments.
This place has been a guilty pleasure for a few years, coming here to feed the ducks and enjoy the atmosphere.
We recently made a visit and called ahead to make reservations. The hostess said they offered no reservations but there was no wait, ok fantastic and we make the 8 minute drive from our hotel. Once we arrive the overweight hostess eyes up my young African America family members and informs us for a party of six nothing would be available until 7:30. We arrived at 4:30. Absolutely intolerable that establishments like this exist in 2024. I used to gloat about this place, never again. Absolute unacceptable behavior towards anyone, children in particular.
Edit: We called back 20 minutes later and she schedules us a booth for 6pm. What an absolute joke, Such blatant racism.

I have been coming to The Old Mill since I was a child, over 50 years. I have held a rehearsal dinner for my son’s wedding there a few years ago- which was excellent. Our most recent was yesterday and it was generally very good, though I have noticed a couple of issues in recent visits. The atmosphere is unbeatable and the food is very good. However, on two separate occasions we have ordered items from the menu only to have the waitress come back and tell us they were out of the item. First, the waitress should apprise you of any unavailable items prior to ordering. Second, why is this becoming a trend? On one occasion it was duck that was unavailable- they had “just sold the last one”. Really, this is a signature menu item which we came specifically for that particular day (drove 1 1/2 hours)- very disappointing. On our most recent visit my husband was informed the mud pie was unavailable after placing an order for it. He then decided to skip dessert. We also heard the waitress tell the party behind us that she thought they were out of lemonade- no excuse for that! Also, though our waitress was generally good, we asked for more rolls and she said “sure” but never brought them. Yes we could have asked again but at that point we were too far along in the meal- again, disappointing. Maybe wait staff should go back to writing things down like they did in the old days so they don’t forget. In general, we still had a good experience and I would recommend. However, I would also recommend remedying your supply issues and, maybe bring back an orange sauce option with the duck?
I am from Florida and we were taking my mom out for her birthday my wife got the steak tips she had to send it back it was so tough she couldn’t chew it my mom got chicken tortlines she had to send it back because it was cold it came back cold again so we just left I will never be back

The Old Mill gets one of the easiest 5 stars I’ve ever given. Came here because it was just the first place that we saw after hiking Wachussett and boy did we luck out. Everything was great from the cozy New England / Colonial atmosphere, kind and fast service, super high quality food, AND good prices. I especially appreciate that last bit as in 2024 it is hard to find a restaurant that can fill you up without breaking the bank but old mill doesn’t skimp out at all and everything we got was delicious. It is also definitely worth mentioning that they could easily charge 10-12 dollars for the pecan rolls and corn fritters, but instead they give you to them for free and they were STELLAR, that really goes a long way. If you’re in the area looking and you want a quality sit down American restaurant which good vibes that’s gonna take care of you, this is a no-brainer. And it is especially nice in the fall.
