Not Your Average Joe's - Westwood

We are longtime customers at NYAJ Westwood. The food is consistent and the place is comfortable. Today I met a friend for a late lunch (1:15 pm arrival). We ordered within about 10 minutes and at 2:00 pm - 40 minutes later - we hadn't received our orders. They were lunch bowls, so nothing complicated. The waiter seemed out to lunch and never had checked on our order until we flagged him down and asked what was happening. We also asked to see the manager. We waited another few minutes and no food and no manager. Eventually the manager brought our food with apologies. He said his system said it was only 12 minutes since our order was placed! That meant the waiter may have not submitted the order for a half hour. Man, that was awful! It was very late for lunch by then. We weren't happy but the manager comped the whole meal. Nice, but lunch in a reasonable time would have been better. While we waited, the usually good focaccia was awful - all small hard ends. Didn't want to have to eat the bread so didn't ask for fresh, but should have considering how late lunch was.

The regular Friday night host/manager remains the best asset to NYAJ Westwood. He is pleasant, professional, and diligent. His attitude seems to be reflected in the waitstaff as well. Continues to be a very positive experience.

We came here for our work dinner. Server was wonderful. She was very accommodating, she didn't hear us order one starter but quickly rectified it for us. The bread was fantastic, easily the most delicious thing we ordered. My starter, the cheese steak egg rolls were fantastic as well as the cauliflower. My entree though was so bland and meh and I was really excited about it. I ordered the twisted Mac and cheese with bbq pulled pork. Sounds amazing right? Welp, it wasn't. The cheese sauce was so funny and bland. Like it wasn't even cheese sauce. The pulled pork was good but it wasn't enough to cover the bland Mac and not so cheese. We won't go here again. My coworker didn't care for her haddock and said it was very bland, and my boss didn't care for her entree either.

We were pleasantly surprised with the flavor, quality, quantity and overall experience with this restaurant.

1st day husband asked for the meatloaf dish, 30 minutes in we were informed there were out. From there on, the restaurant manager took care of us and even went ahead to tell us the meatloaf was one of the best dishes and recommended we tried it, daring but we took him by his word and returned next day. He did not dissapoint.

Then next day my chocolate was a mess but the food was sooooo delicious, and the service was so fantastic I didn't care. I did not leave a crumb in that plate.

I loved the menu options, the had amazing offerings for different oalates and lifestyle.

Definitely recommended and we will be returning.

Love this place! Never disappointed. My fave dish is the mustard crusted chicken. So delicious! Bang bang shrimp, yummy! All the apps are good! The bread and oil is a nice start, too. I've been here for work gatherings, dates, family meals, holidays and even take out. All great! The bar area is nice if you're hanging with friends. Service is always right on target too!

The pork schnitzel that they featured in October was spectacular. There are other wonderful options like the gyozas, the tuna that they use is good, not sushi grade ahi but still delicious. We came late in the afternoon and the bar was clearly recovering from a long lunch. The bartender was so cool and nice, she was immediately aware of us and cleaned the bar top, it was a bit of a mess which she corrected quickly.

Dependable and convenient. Also predictable and limited choices for vegetarians. I never mind coming here, but I also never miss it.

Came in for brunch 1 other table wait 45min for i would say under average food not even Average. Ordered coffee with milk came to the table with apologies no milk in the restaurant. Sorry no more visits from me

I take the train from Rt 128 to NYC to visit family at least 10x a year. Today work was insanely busy and I did not have time to eat and barely made off the highway 30 min before train departure: I ran into the restaurant that was VERY busy on a Friday night in hopes of anything in 5 minutes to go. I was shocked when a kind gentleman (I think manager) with a wait at the door got me a salad and soup which was delicious! The will now make this place my go to for a bite and a drink here before getting on the train. Thank you!

Probably the worst food that I over paid for in years. Scallops were rotten. My wife’s mustard crusted chicken was bad. I ordered fish and chips. The fish was under cooked with water running out of it when I cut into it. Tenders and fries looked ok. Good service.

One of my go to places for dinner and a few drinks. Food is consistently good with healthy options if needed. Very allergy conscience if that is an issue. Layout is comfortable with good outside options.

The bread and oil are delicious. I had the burger and fries, which were cooked perfectly. There’s outdoor seating available, and while it can be a bit loud inside, it’s still nice. The service is very quick
