The mole is fantastic and the guacamole is real. The food is authentically good and I enjoy going here every time.

I regret to inform you that after 29 years of serving delicious food and strong beverages, no cap, Mexican Cafe will be closing their doors permanently towards the end of September 2021. Many fantastic memories will be cemented in my brain. Make sure you stop by ASAP, tip well, drink up, and savor the memories. God bless.

Awful service. My friends and I came hereand waited 45 minutes just for someone to take our simple non-alcoholic drink orders and there were other people who came after us who got their food and drink orders BEFOREHAND and we were there almost an HOUR. Not to mention the insensitivity and attitude of the management staff when questioned about this matter. They have lost 3 customers on account of this. I DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL.

Our office has visited Mexican Cafe for several years now. We absolutely love their Avocado Salad with grilled chicken or shrimp. Lots of nutrition packed in there and the dressing is the "icing on the cake". Ask for extra! Also, love the option to eat outdoors.

Was ignored for the longest time. Even called to get someone’s attention and they ignored the phone like what!?

In these strange times that we've been experiencing over the last several months the words the public has been to exercise courtesy and patience and generosity with respect to our local businesses. Now things are kind of resuming back to a level of normal I would expect that those same local businesses offer the same level common courtesy and customer service at they've always prided themselves on. I've eaten at this restaurant in numerous time and place an order this evening for pick up online. The owner of the business apparently for whatever his reason has decided that he's no longer taking these online orders so he spoke to the company on the phone and had them send a cancellation email but could not take the time call the number provided w/ my order and ask if I wanted to place the order over the phone. I came for pick up there was no order there. Unfortunately, I will no longer be dining at this establishment. I can't pateonize a business that doesn't do at least the minimum to provide customer service.

Chips are stale. Food is just ok. Nothing to write home about. Prices are reasonable.

I ordered the tamales and the mini chimichangas(to go). They were absolutely fantastic! Loved trying all the different kinds of chimichangas, the pork and beef were my favorite! The tamales come wrapped in corn husks which was cool and authentic. I liked that they put the sauce on the side so the tamales didn’t get too soggy underneath. I would definitely give this place another try!

We have been here before and it was nice fun. Today it went downhill. Walked in it was early evening and wait staff mumbled and look unhappy to see us service got worse. Waitress spent her whole time talking to couple. Food was slow. Restroom was dirty and overflowing garbage. Looks like they need owner on premises. Too bad.

Executive Summary:The Mexican Cafe used to be very good when it was the only Mexican in town ~15 years ago. But things have changed and their competition is vastly superior. I recommend Mi Lindo Cancun Grill for Mexican, and Sin Fronteras for Mexican and other South American dishes. Now to the critical review:The greatest appeal of the Mexican Cafe is that it is walking distance to downtown Annapolis. It is a decent place to start a bar crawl with high carb appetizers and a margarita before getting to downtown. The margaritas are good but they are served in a plastic cup which is very unbefitting of a $10 drink. Plus, the salt does not really stick to the plastic rim and it ends up as a sticky mess all over your hands as it slowly slides down the side of the cup.The food is certainly not the most authentic Mexican. The majority of food on the menu is deep fried and/or covered in cheese so you will leave feeling bloated. Also, you do not notice at first, but once you leave the restaurant you realize the smell of the fried food in the air clings to your clothes and hair.Last time I went, my girlfriend and friend order two different steak dishes: steak tacos, and steak fajitas. The steak came out like leather. It was totally inedible so we sent it back. We replaced the steak tacos with shrimp tacos, which contained a disappointing portion of shrimp. We replaced the steak fajitas with chicken fajitas which came out fine. Finally, the service is usually slow and inefficient.

If your looking for some good ol food this is the place to be. The margaritas are the best I've ever had ... I will definitely be going there on a regular and I suggest you check them out. The food a def 8 out of 10. They could use some work on their chips and salsa...

Charlie

Great little spot with large portions and friendly staff. The margaritas are nice and strong and one of few places that i've consistently had to take leftovers back home.
