Great space with the fire places and bar area with TVs (for keeping up with sports). The server was great! The crab salad and crab cake sandwiches were delicious. The Bloody Mary was ‘in the middle’- tart string beans which I enjoyed but nit the person who ordered it, the spiked hot chocolate was ok- something different.

If i Could give the service at this bar a zero, I would. I have been to the upstairs on a Saturday when Miles was bartending and he was very kind. However, when I go downstairs I am faced with nothing but rudeness and disrespect. One specific bartender (long, greasy, brown hair) has an unforgiving attitude. I asked for water and was informed “they did not have water.” I then questioned this theory and was yelled at for asking for water. I then proceeded to see a bartender get water from the water tap. How are you going to deny a customer a cup of water? It wasn’t this that was off putting, but the complete and udder rudeness I was returned. I would not recommend the downstairs bar to anyone as they don’t care about the customer, but rather the $2 they might make off your drink. Like I said, Miles is the only good part of this establishment.

This is a cute restaurant in a great location walking distance to lots of shopping, restaurants, Ego Alley and The Naval Academy. We joined a large group of people for lunch and unfortunately we were very disappointed in our server. For example, he would not take a meal order from one person if he was taking appetizer orders from others. Our table was rarely cleared of dirty cups and dishes without us having to ask. My impression was he just couldn't handle a large group but he should have asked for assistance. The food was good, I had the Reuben, and drinks were good and the wine pours were substantial.

We picked seats at the bar for quick food. Noon 12/12/25.

Bartender didn’t want to ask the kitchen where our food was (30 minutes wait …others had their app, soup not delivered to us…did our order get cancelled?)

He said the kitchen gets angry when he goes in there. Ok, that should have been the time to bail. 45 minute mark…2nd ask about the food…he says he will go check. So brave. “The order slip was not up there”

Wish he owned his job, maybe apologize for his error in putting his fear of the kitchen staff, over customers. And my husband’s sandwich never arrived.

Wish I read the reviews of others first

Good food in an historic building. The staff is friendly and efficient. If you want to take advantage of theor drink specials be sure to sit in the bar because they aren't available in the restaurant seating area.

Stop in every once in a while for a drink, great that happy hour runs till 7pm. Tried the oyster shooter and it was pretty good with a spicy sauce and little beer shot. Would go back for happy hour again

Pretty good food for the most part, had the Steam Pot which included some seafood. Personally I'm not a fan of seafood but to me it was good. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to try some Maryland style food. I also like the history surrounding the place/building.

Went to lunch 10/28/25 at 12:30. I went to the restroom after being seated and the upstairs reeked of bleach
After lunch and back at our hotel my friends noticed I had white spots on my pants, which were brand new ( tag still attached that I forgot to remove)
When I came back to San Diego 10/29, my cleaners verified it was bleach and nothing could be done.
I called Middleton inn and explained my issue and was told to call Chrissy, the manager, on October 31. I called Chrissy and she basically called me a liar. Said they clean at 7 am even though numerous people commented on the strong smell of bleach at 12:30. When do you ever come in contact with bleach on vacation???
She said there was no way I could prove it happened at the restaurant, which, of course, it did. She refused to accept any responsibility.
Very disappointing.
