They no longer have a sushi chef which I think takes away from the experience / atmosphere. Waitresses seemed understaffed but the chef was good and meal was delicious!

Every year to remember a loved one we miss, we have dinner at a restaurant that she loved on her birthday. Yesterday, I called and explained that I have Celiac disease and cannot have gluten and wanted to know if they had gluten free options. They assured me that they can prepare everything with gluten free soy sauce and listed the two things I cannot have.
We are a party of six. I asked if it would be possible for our party to sit at a hibachi table alone to have all the food prepared with gluten free soy sauce, to avoid cross contamination. She said they typically don't reserve tables. I said, even if it's not busy? She said if it's not busy it's possible that we can.
When we walked in today, all but two hibachi tables were completely empty. The person I spoke to on the phone was there.
She said they do not reserve tables and would have us sit with four others, but that it was ok because my food would be prepared first. I said "so everyone at the table would have to wait for mine to be finished before theirs is started?" (I didn't like that idea, I didn't want people waiting longer because of me.) She said no, that my food would be moved to the side and prepared separately before regular soy sauce was added to the rest of the hibachi.
We were sat and I expressed my hesitance and concern to the server. She assured me that her mother has Celiac disease and she understands.
I became ill within 30 minutes.
The reason I post this review is because shortly after we were sat, a couple came in and ended up having an entire hibachi table to themselves. At least four hibachi tables remained completely empty the entire time we were there. The place was not busy and my food being cross contaminated was needless and completely avoidable. (I have been to hibachi before, perfectly fine, because the entire hibachi table was using gluten free soy sauce.) They refused that for us even though the restaurant had more than enough tables, all while assuring me they were taking the precautions necessary.
I will never be back and encourage anyone, especially those with dietary restrictions, to choose anywhere else than here-- it's too expensive for them to care this little about ensuring the safety and experience of their patrons.

The owner doesn’t like Americans. He thinks we are all stupid and not worth his time. He uses the lowest quality meat and lies about it. Go eat somewhere else where we are appreciated and respected.

Maybe it was the day or time we went... but our first family outing to this restaurant was far from impressive and definitely overpriced. We waited a long time (10 years) to take our whole family here and have the youngest kids be able to appreciate the food and "show" of cooking. So we were excited! (It was also my daughter's birthday.) I had been here about 15 years ago and loved it- the servers were into the art and performance of cooking. Tables were packed with excited people. Atmosphere was alive! But our server just cooked the food, showed 2 small tricks, and that was it. We spent about $250 dollars for a family of 6 (%20 tip included and 2 kids meals and mostly cheapest adult meal.) My husband and I had to fake smile through the whole thing so that our kids didn't know they we were getting shafted. I should have known something was off since we were basically the only ones there except 6 other people in the entire place. The place looked clean, though, so I give them 2 stars for the atmosphere. They did serve food in a timely manner, so 2 stars for service and the quantity of food (mostly rice) was filling and it didnt taste bad (although it was nothing special)... so 3 stars for food. They did, however, give my daughter a piece of "free" cake but considering the overall experience and cost...well "TANSTAFL"...or should I say "there ain't no such thing as a FREE cake".

What disgusting treatment of customers. The manager here is an ignorant rude man who literally shamed me for wanting to replace all vegetables with rice. Hope it was worth the dollar he saved on what was about 50 cents worth of rice. Do yourself a favor and go to Kobe…better service and quality.
Abhorrent behavior by the arrogant and rude manager here for the last time. Literally scolded me for requesting to replace vegetables that I’m allergic to with rice, which I know is cheaper. Mind you there is not a single soul dining there at dinner time on a Sunday…guess I know why! Do yourself a favor and go to Kobe for better service and food. Hope it was worth the 50 cents!
The food is always good here. The interactions between the chef and patrons are very entertaining. The only downside is that their sushi chef left. They are, however, looking for a new one.
