We tried this restaurant for the first time this evening. We shared the delicious crab soup. Our meals were excellent. I had the Rockfish with yummy crab, risotto and asparagus. And, my partner had the filet. Both were presented nicely and cooked to our liking.

We ate here last night with a group of 10. The food was delicious and huge portions.. the bacon wrapped scallops are the best Ive had in a long time, crab Mac and cheese was amazing as well… I could go on about everything we all had, but for people wondering, just go and check it out!!!

This had been the best local experience I’ve had. The atmosphere is spot on, service is impeccable all the way through, and food was fantastic. Heads up, the sides are shareable so order with that in mind. 10/10 would recommend! Happy to have a restaurant of this caliber in the Hagerstown surrounding area!

To say we are disappointed is an understatement. The slippery tablecloth was a problem for us and we noticed other tables were having issues as well.I have been to many restaurants; however, I have never seen a restaurant billed as fine dining that has shareable sides. Fine dining restaurants have chefs that create a menu, pair sides, and that is how the menu is presented. The Admiral has shareable sides and charges extra even though the entrees are priced at a level that should include the sidesWe started with a scallop starter that was not bad, not impressive, but gave me hope but it was downhill from there.I ordered the bison steak with lobster mac and cheese. The steak they presented was inedible and that is not an exaggeration. It was and endcut "vein" steak that was more tendon than meat, it was over cooked (ordered medium,) and the amount of pepper on the steak rendered it further inedible. When I told the waitor the steak was inedible he went to the back, returned, and said the cook said "he can't help it, that is how they come in." Seeing as I was a journeyman meat cutter in my early career, I assure you vein steaks are not served in fine dining restaurants. The lobster mac and cheese had so much oil and butter running out of its could have poured it off, the pasta was bland, and the flavor was not good at all.My wife ordered the rock fish with crab imperial. I know the modern twist some restaurants are serving skin side up; however, they were not successful as the skin was not cooked properly and very off-putting both visually and in flavor. The fish itself was overcooked to the point of being dry. The crab imperial was underseasoned and even missing two ingredients one typically finds in a good imperial.I was hoping they would redeem themselves with an adequate dessert; however, I was wrong. The cheesecake's texture was dry, it was bland, and very underwhelming. The chocolate topping reminded me of magic shell and was very hard.We spent $188 and went home hungry.

Incredible friendly staff, very professional. Food is out of this world and was prepared exactly how we ordered it. Specialty drink menu is a must try. The desserts that are made by a local pastry chef are to die for, I highly recommend the Turtle Cheesecake.

My husband and I went to the Admiral last night and we had the Valentine special. It was a four course meal and food was excellent!! The service was exceptional and everyone was so nice and professional. We started with a drink at the bar and the cocktails were great. We then went to our table for dinner. My husband had the French onion soup and it was delicious and the steak and it was cooked perfectly and so delicious. I started with the Shrimp cocktail which came with 5 very large shrimp and were great! I had the house salad and it was fresh and came out right after our appetizers!! My lobster tail was huge and fabulous !! I could not finish it and my husband was very happy about that lol!! We ended with the turtle cheesecake and it was beyond yummy!! I am so happy to have this excellent restaurant so close to where I live and cannot wait for my next visit!!

I was looking forward to trying this restaurant when I saw it was opening. I must say, overall, I and my family were disappointed in the overall experience. Where to start...First, the restaurant is advertised as a fine dining experience. Having eaten in many respected restaurants, in cities around the country, The atmosphere falls short of their claims. (to be honest, I was curious how they were going to transform the old Burger and sandwich place, Dan's Tap House, into a fine dining experience) The answer is,,, they didn't! Fine dining establishments do not feature booths (even with table cloths). They have tables with place settings and appropriate silverware. Here the utensils were wrapped in napkins a la Appleby's. (interestingly, My wife's French Onion Soup was served with a stainless steel Spork, Huh?)The decorations consisted of a few pictures of historical admirals (clever) and a small ship's wheel between the bar and the main dining room. Next up, the food.Overall, the menu was fine, but somewhat limited in selection. Apparently in an effort to be more fancy, there were offerings of duck breast, stuffed Rockfish, Bison filets, etc. Interestingly, there were no dishes offering chicken. This may have had something to do with the pricing, but more on that later. To begin the meal, there was no offering of bread, or rolls to "set the table" for the coming meal. (Again, fine dining?) As another reviewer correctly noted, Fine dining establishments offer dishes created by a head chef that include not only the main dish, but appropriately matched sides designed to accentuate the overall gastronomical experience. At the Admiral, All main courses come as is, as in no sides, just the main course. All sides are offered as "shared" sides. so if you want a risotto with blue cheese with your meal, it must be purchased separately and in a portion not appropriate to the main course. While the main courses were cooked well enough, I was surprised at the lack of sauces provided to enhance the dish. For example, I had the Duck Breast as my selection. It came as is. well cooked but alone. No sauce, side, or bed to accent the meal. Salt and pepper sufficed. The serving sizes were a tad small given the prices. (again, more on that later) My wife was assured the Strawberry cake for dessert was wonderful. To be truthful, it was somewhat dry and could have used a Raspberry, or Strawberry reduction to moisten it. Finally, the piece de resistance...The cost!Let me start by saying I have no issue paying top dollar for a fine meal well served and in a lovely ambiance. But the disconnect between the pricing at the Admiral and the other prerequisites was startling. The appetizers ran approximately $15 to $20. The main courses were anywhere from $25 for the Stuffed Portobello Mushroom to $47 for the 10 oz. Bison Filet. (As mentioned above, I had the single Duck Breast in non existent Berry sauce for $33) The "sharable" sides were $8 to $10 each. The Dry Strawberry cake...$15! All totaled, my wife, son and I amassed a $168.00 bill by the end of the evening. Mind you, this was 2 appetizers, 3 courses and one side without any wine, beer, or mocktails, only soda. So with Tip, the bill was just short of $200.00. (the service was fine, but the staff was a little hovering and the dishes were collected from the table by an young man approximately 16-17 who repeatedly asked if it was "O.K." to do so) This was entirely too mush for the meal and the overall experience.I don't mean to be overly harsh, but honest with regard to their claim of a fine dining experience. I fear that if the owners do not adjust both the pricing and claims of the experience, they will not last the Summer. With a myriad of excellent dining choices to be found within 15 miles (Frederick City) why will people return to sit at a booth looking up at a sports bar T.V. with the "game" on and pay extravagant prices for pretty good food? I suspect, like myself, they won't.Parking: It was fine

I can understand why they don’t show prices, not only the fact that your sides were a la carte at $8.00 for mash potatoes as well as all other sides the stuffed rock fish was good but not at $37,00 just for the fish I’ve been to find dinning. Places in Baltimore , you knew when you went in you were going to be treaded to find dinning , this restaurant is just that a restaurant service was good .there are other restaurants that serve stuffed fish as well as receiving two sides along with bread or rolls for around $30.00 , parking is a small problem

I'm going a bit against the grain with our review. My husband and I ate here last night, and after some consideration of our review, we likely won't return, but we're glad we tried it out. I heard of the Admiral when someone on a Facebook group recently was requesting nice dinner locations, and someone recommended The Admiral. I added it to my list of restaurants to try because I'm always looking for new restaurants that are nice/fine dining. For starters, the caption "Finer dining" should be noted, because this location is essentially a bar with tablecloths; we noted that most individuals coming in were in casual clothes (some in sweat pants and cargos), which wasn't quite the environment I was hoping for on a fancier date night out.Our service was good: the hostess was very friendly upon our arrival; our server was pleasant; the bussers were attentive and polite; food came out in a mostly adequate time frame. My husband had a bar drink, and I ordered a blueberry mocktail. We both enjoyed our drinks, though, I was kind of surprised a mocktail was pretty much the same cost as a cocktail, considering I've gotten mocktails recently other places that weren't $12 - seems a little steep for a soda with syrup and a few fruit garnishes. The food itself was really not much to write home about. I'm perfectly okay with paying $40 for a fine meal and am originally from central Maryland, so no stranger to quality seafood dishes, but overall, my husband and I were a bit less than satisfied here. My husband started with a French onion soup, which had a great flavor but it was basically a cup of cheese with some broth (it was VERY cheesy). He also had the crab cakes, which he enjoyed and said were mostly crab meat without much filler, so that was good, though they were just slightly smaller than expected. I had the rockfish with crab imperial; unfortunately, the fish I had was ~50% brown with some red, so, while generally brown spots are not inedible, I was not comfortable eating most of my fish; the white flesh tasted fine, but wasn't excellent. The crab imperial was very good tasting, though slightly cold.To say I was disappointed for a $37 plate is an understatement. We were also surprised that there was no bread served as we first sat down or any other opening dish (which is still pretty common in fine dining and most restaurants). We also probably should have inferred there were no sides accompanied with the entrées when the menu did not list any, but we assumed most places even still have some type of small vegetable side (e.g., 2 asparagus stalks with a tablespoon of whipped potatoes, etc). The sides are 'shareables' only, so it really seems to be a family style seafood restaurant. The turtle cheesecake, however, was fantastic. It was a great ending to our visit. This is definitely something we can recommend.Unfortunately, not knowing how to approach the menu a little better (i.e., getting sides to help fill us up), we still went home and had to eat again because entrees alone weren't very filling, yet we still had a >$100 bill.TLDR: Overall, service was pleasant; food was adequate but not spectacular and did not impress us at the prices of the menu. We can't recommend this restaurant with the current style layout (no starting bread, sides are all sold separately as shared dishes, etc).
