A marvelous place
My experience was okay, not bad. Small space with sweet happy hour drinks. Too sweet for my liking. I had the tequila lemon drop during happy hour and my friend had the rum punch. Her drink was too sweet also. Can't speak much on the food because we decided to eat elsewhere. The menu didn't appeal to either of us. We ended up a few doors down at the food hall to eat.

We have been seeing the posts all over social media about their taco Tuesday, so decided to check it out. If you've never been to La'Caj, but have been to this area before, this is the old pizza spot Via Roma, with the large patio. The seating/decor is pretty much the same.
We arrived about 6:30, so we missed happy hour which ended at 6. That was fine as they had taco Tuesday food specials all night. Tacos range from $3-$5 and they have something for everyone. As nice as it was, we thought we'd be able to sit outside, but the patio was closed, so we sat at the bar. The restaurant wasn't too crowded, but the service was rather slow.
We started with drinks. One of my girlfriends ordered a spicy margarita, which we were later told wasn't possible as she ordered it with Casa Migos and they only have infused tequila for the spicy margarita, no jalapeños to make a fresh one. My other girlfriend ordered a Mexican mule and I had the white sangria. The drinks were ok and I mean JUST ok. The Casa Migos margarita was almost $30 by itself and no it wasn't even in a margarita glass, it was served in a regular on the rocks glass and she said it wasn't strong at all. Pre-made sangria has to be stirred before served as the juice will settle at the bottom and as the sangria is in a spout container, juice is the dominant factor otherwise.
For food we had shrimp ceviche, vegetable taco, shrimp taco, chicken taco, ground beef taco, chicken empanadas and rice & beans. The food, overall was like the drinks JUST ok. The shrimp ceviche came with tortilla chips that looked freshly cooked and flavorfully seasoned, but were bland and stale. The ceviche itself lacked the fresh, brightness one expects from ceviche. The tacos are street tacos and they come with nothing more than the filling topped with cilantro and lots of raw onions. The shrimp taco is diced shrimp and comes with a side of mild green sauce, the others do notcome with sauce and it's 50 cents each for sauce, hot or mild, or sour cream. The vegetable taco is made from the vegetables on hand, so it's just grilled green peppers and onions, like what you find in fajitas, no cilantro, no raw onions and no sauce, VERY BLAND. The chicken taco is small diced chicken thighs, so if you don't like thigh meat, don't order. My gf said the chicken empanada tasted like pulled barbecue chicken. The best thing we had was the rice and beans. None of us are pinto bean fans, but these were quite tasty and that side was $7.
It was taco Tuesday, so for food it wasn't expensive, but it wasn't that good either. We left disappointed and longing for Via Roma in so many ways.
I heard they have live music on Wednesdays, maybe I'll go back for that, but as far as for food and drinks, that's a NO.

Today is my first time visiting. I came for a birthday celebration. The atmosphere is nice. It's a good crowd and the music is good. I came near the eand of happy hour. I stood waiting trying to get someone's attention. It was obvious the bartenders had stopped taken orders. I finally got someone's attention and asked for a recommendation. He said everything was good and had no recommendation. I got the drinks and check at the same time. And I asked... did I miss the happy hour? I was here waiting attempting to be patient. I ordered 2 drinks and a stake fajita came to $56.00. That would be more than fine if it was worth it.
The atmosphere is nice and that's it. I won't be back. I'm disappointed because I believe it's minority owed.
We are all waiting for food ?

The Spanish Style Pinto Beans were good and so was the Mango Lemonade.
So, Fusion restaurants will either hit or miss when they attempt to blend multiple cooking styles or traditions together.
The La’Caj Etouffee was a Louisiana staple with a twist: using creamy tomato based sauce with crawfish and was cook exactly as described. My friend from New Orleans tried the La’Caj Etouffee and said, etouffee shouldn't be in the name. It was just wrong.
This étouffée dish is probably okay for people who never had real Creole/Cajun cooking, but not for someone who was first introduced to Louisiana cooking and foods in the 1970's by my friend's 75+ year old grandmother from Baton Rogue (who was an amazing cook). Her red beans and rice was so good, it WAS the meal. Nothing else needed.
I have eaten at the homes of several friends who moved from many parts of Louisiana to the DMV. All are old school traditional Creole/Cajun cooks fixing (étouffée, jambalaya, gumbo, blackened, etc.) meals.
I have also been cooking Creole/Cajun foods since the 1980's, feeding my Louisiana friends and getting great praises from very critical people who will tell you if the food isn't good authentic or homemade. My cook books, are by Paul Prudhomme, Justin Wilson and Leah Chase.
Étouffée, is made with a blond or brown roux. A blond roux is cooked, stirring constantly, for approximately 5 minutes to remove the "raw" flavor of the flour and to add a slightly "nutty" flavor. A brown roux is cooked longer (30 to 35 minutes) in order to deepen the color and flavor. No flavourful roux, onion, celery, and green peppers, not étouffée. Call it something else.
Service
The service was very good. We got seated immediately, orders taken quickly and delivered in a timely fashion. It did take a little time to get the check, but everything else was great.
Atmosphere
The background noise from the music and talking was very loud. No thoughts of acoustics in the restaurant to absorb all the sounds bouncing around uncontrollably. (The Milk and Honey restaurant located on the second floor in the bulding has the same problem. I blame this problem on the builder.) So, if my friend sitting across the table and I had used texting to communicate, that would have worked. However, shouting to talk shouldn't have to be used as the standard voice level to communicate. But, some customers didn't mind shouting at each other.
I want to try the Banana Pudding Crème Brulee for dessert, but after the étouffée, I didn't want to risk trying it.
BTW, people at the restaurant were really enjoying the food and having a great time. There also seemed to be a lot of repeat customers. However, it just didn't work for me. I would would suggest trying it yourself.

I visited one day for lunch, and got the shrimp po boy with fries. It was delicious! The cost was reasonable. The shrimp were a good size, seasoned and fried well. The fries were tasty too. I hope they stick around and continue to serve good food at good prices. I'll be back!

It was my mother's and I first time at this restaurant and we were greeted by Bianca who coincidentally asked if it was our first time there. She was very friendly, welcoming and glad to hear that we chose this location for our dinner. With smiles, Bianca gladly guided us to our table where we were then introduced to our waitress, Felicia.
Felicia also came with smiles and was just as friendly and welcoming as she was ready to get us started with drinks as we browsed the menu. Felicia offered great menu recommendations and consistently assured us with our needs once we received our meals.
Starting with the Shrimp Ceviche, I had the Cajun Pasta with Chicken and my mother had the Cajun Seared Lamb lollipops. There were no complaints with the food whatsoever, it was served in a timely manner, with excellent presentation and was very delicious. We took a few orders of the Banana Pudding Creme Brulee to-go and its already a favorite!
From first impressions to leaving the restaurant, my mother and I were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness, timely service, food quality and overall atmosphere of La Caj Seafood. We were very glad to have Bianca and Felicia solidify this dinner occasion as a very pleasant and memorable experience for us both; needless to say that we will definitely be returning customers.
After finishing our meals, I requested to take a photo of these two professionals, to which they happily obliged. We highly recommend this restaurant and I'm glad that I'm able to highlight how great our experience was at this restaurant so that others can see for themselves.

My girls introduced me for my birthday in March and I really enjoyed myself so much that I came back 4 different times after with friends showing them the gem. Yesterday I decided to take hubby for a date and I was really saddened by the drop in service. We walked and there was no one to greet us we finally approached a lady who informed us that we could sit anywhere. We sat at a table and for 20min no one came to say hi, or even offer water and there were servers walking past our table. We got up and left. I'm really hoping it was just an off night because my first few visits were really nice not sure what happend this time.

Unfortunately, my first experience here was not impressive and I was not pleased with the items I purchased- crawfish étouffée, chicken caesar salad, and beef empanadas… the half chicken was tasty though but I will not return.

I can't comment on their food or service because I was visiting another vendor that was just using their facilities. However, I can say the the space was very nice with multiple seating options, and a full service bar. Space was comfortable and welcoming.

Shrimp tacos bland. Had to add salt and pepper. Beans were canned. Steak po boy very fatty. Waitress was friendly. Waiter with face tattoos was loud by the bar and it felt very unprofessional.
