I keep coming because my husband likes the place, but I have no idea how a place south of the mason dixon serving Chicken and Waffles can screw up fried chicken so bad. It is a shame because the waffles and sauce are to die for, but the chicken is ALWAYS overcooked, bland, tough, and dry. I have tried it multiple times over the years hoping they will figure this out, but alas... no.

The service was HORRIBLE! Pierre was our waiter who gave us his life story but not good service. He and a bunch of other kids (staff) were sitting at the table in front of us laughing and on their phones. I kept eyeing and waving at him but he ignored me. I had to get up walk over to the front desk and tell the manager we wanted a new waiter. Eddie was our new waiter and he was EXCELLENT! Eddie had just about every table in the restaurant and still managed to be professional and prompt. He apologized for the other kid like it was his fault. The manager could care less about those "kids" sitting, laughing, and chilling while Eddie worked the all the tables! Eddie, I hope you are appreciated here because you turned our night around! Maybe the wait staff should be 21+.

Restaurant is starting to be a hit or miss with service and food quality. Most time service is great, others times okay. What a shame,

Food is decent, not great. Service is average - we did sit at our table for 10 minutes before a waiter appeared. The drinks were good. It’s pretty much a bar and an open seating area next to the bar. The atmosphere is nice.

I was a bit disappointed in my trip to the establishment today. Food I had gotten on many occasions was subpar. Quality control in the kitchen needs to be addressed. I got the shrimp and grits substituting salmon. Grits portions are getting smaller. And consistency today was very off. Wait staff was curt and slightly defensive when I expressed my concerns after being asked if everything was ok. This is a place I take people who are visiting because I typically love it, but today I was low-key embarrassed...

Food is great. The buffalo Mac is awesome. Only problem is they change their menu routinely and get rid of favorites. The menu is a bit limited but all in all the food is pretty good. Decent portions but not large.

Don’t forget utensils for to-go orders, please! Love this restaurant. Will always go back.

12/27/24 Update: Forgot my syrup for my chicken & waffles to-go. Didn't get napkins or utensils either.. =/

Came here for the first time with my neighbor for brunch, had a good experience. Service was excellent (I wish I remember the girl’s name, she was awesome!) Ordered the Monkey bread as an app…. And it was an entire 8inch round pan size lol SO FREAKING DELICIOUS!!! (definitely took most of it home) and the crab pretzel… disappointed with the crab dip on top, there was literally no crab meat, it was all cream cheese, old bay and melted cheese. Tasted okay, but a bit expensive for no crab meat.

I feel it is necessary to recount my recent experience at State Fare, which unfortunately fell short of my expectations. As a long-time patron of this establishment, I have frequented it on numerous occasions, but my visit on November 4, 2024, proved to be particularly disappointing.

Our intention was to enjoy the 50% discount promotion on appetizers and drinks, which initially seemed like a great opportunity. The total bill before applying the discount amounted to $206.35, which was subsequently reduced to $104.60. However, we were taken aback to find that a gratuity of $41.27 had been automatically added to our bill, calculated based on the original total rather than the discounted amount. This practice was neither communicated to us prior to our visit nor indicated on the menu, leaving us feeling misled and frustrated.

When we sought clarification from our server, Ta'nyia, regarding the gratuity calculation, she informed us that this was standard procedure. Dissatisfied with her response, we requested to speak with a manager. The manager, Kirby, approached us without introducing himself and appeared disinterested in our concerns. Upon explaining that we had not encountered this practice during previous visits, he asserted that this was their longstanding policy and abruptly walked away, leaving us feeling dismissed and our concerns unaddressed.

The gratuity amount imposed on our bill appeared excessive, particularly considering that we were a party of two adults and one child. The absence of clarity regarding this policy was quite disheartening. Following this experience, I find myself deeply disappointed and have decided against returning to State Fare. This is particularly regrettable, as I have previously enjoyed dining at this establishment; however, this incident has significantly tarnished my perception. It is my hope that the management will take customer feedback into account and reevaluate their approach to gratuity and overall customer service. A more transparent policy could enhance the dining experience and foster a more positive relationship with patrons. It is essential for businesses to remain receptive to the concerns of their customers to ensure continued patronage and satisfaction.

Enclosed is our receipt, which indicates that a gratuity of 40% was applied to our bill

The food was just okay. The crab dip lacked enough meat to make it stand out, and the breakfast bowl was served warm instead of hot.
